The pad plumbing was completed today

I have *2* dogs who would have LOVED to taste that IC60 power cord so I grabbed a milk crate and skilsaw to fashion up a nochew9000.

Im about to do an install on a fiberglass pool myself. Can you explain your plumbing here? My plan was to run 2 skimmers and 4 returns(no main drain) on a 16x38(6 foot deep) pool.

Hey Addon and Welcome !!!!

On the right side, 2 skimmer lines are on a 3 way valve and the solo line left of that is the main drain. That feeds the pump.

After the pump is a 3 way valve to the dry well for waste and draining, which is code here. I wouldn't have needed this line with a cartridge filter (DE and sand have to backwash to clean them) but it is a NICE feature to have. The dry well will only handle a little so I will likely add another 3 way to the line and exit it into the yard for larger drains or long vacuum times to waste, like at opening.

Then it's in and out of the filter and hits the SWG before returning to the pool.

So the solo line coming out of the filter and into the SWG returning to the pool is the return? I thought I saw two returns in the pool wall? Do you just have a Tee close to the pool for each return?

They went with the 'water hammer' method instead of a 'T'. In theory the water pressure will press against the end cap causing both returns before it to have equal pressure/flow. Last time they did a 'T'.

I debated running a 2nd return line myself when I had a stack of PVC parts laying in the yard, but I had a single return line at the old house with the same equipment and it worked great, so why mess with it ?

I grappled with the 'you can shut off a future problem' thing, which is sage advice for pools with Spas or 3+ returns. For me it doubled my chance of a future problem to allow shutting off the bad half.🤣

But if I doubled my returns and did have a problem with one if them, I could shut that one off and still run the other until it was fixed. :brickwall::brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:

Decisions, decisions. So I said, Meh, I'm real handy and if I ever have a problem with the single line, I will run a temp line across the patio to get by in the short term. Including the trip to Home Depot it would take an hour from start to finish.

How fired GC's son did it, which PB caught and sent someone else to fix. I had 6 other fights going with the GC at that point and hadn't gotten to this battle yet. It was REAL nice to see the pool store tech that mostly built my old pool out there, already having fixed this without asking.

Code here (and IIRC most places) is that all plumbing needs to be on undisturbed earth.
GC and his son were OK with a ballerina railing 6 inches down.

The downward end was worse than the pic shows and never would have drained back at closing time. It only would have been a matter of time before it froze and split the pipe. But I had bigger fish to fry at that point.

Better to double check.
That's why I have my peeps helping here. I don't need the traditional help that we usually give. That does NOT mean I won't miss 27 things while the GC uses generic internet plans that aren't mine. He's fired now, but I've been preoccupied alot so far because of incompetence. Like. Pouring a wall for liner over stairs when we waited so long for fiberglass ones for the dogs.:rant::rant:

Thanks again to all.

It killed me to sit on my hands while they were MIA for the better part of month and a half with a backyard full of parts just begging to be used.

That extra bit of pipe at the end won't do anything.

In any case, it doesn't make much difference as the returns will be close enough to the same flow.

Lie # ......... (I've lost count how many) :ROFLMAO:

But when the guy I like kept it, it gave it more cred.

Glad to know it won't hurt at least. So THANKS.

A water bottle is not strong enough to provide any protection.
Yeah, nobody is nearby to fall and I go in from the other side which is more friendly with a ramp. That bottle was a lazy concrete guy who didn't want to use the garbage can 20 ft out of the pic.

At some point someone is going to walk on the wall, which presents a risk.

I would put something over the ends for safety even if it is makeshift.

A short piece of 1-1/2" pvc with a cap would provide good protection.

Or, just cut them off flush with the wall if they are not going to be used for anything.
