Getting antsy...

Is there any benefit to dry vs. liquid CYA?
With liquid you need to use the whole bottle & rinse it well a few times to get an accurate dose. It disperses oddly inside the bottle no matter how much u try to mix it - pouring 1/2 gallon doesn’t necessarily net you what poolmath said it would- the most potent goo will remain in the bottle. so unless u need a whole bottle’s worth go with dry. It’s also more expensive

Thanks as always! Dry it is. I’ll be doing the sock method this afternoon. Looks like my chlorine pour was a little hot but it’s 92 degrees outside with full sun so I bet by tonight I’ll be in the good zone with zero cya in the pool.
Did this test a little bit ago. Is there any danger in swimming in water like this? My daughter is going insane!

Also - only dose based on the fas/dpd test. The one with regeants r-0871, r0003 & dpd powder r-0870.
The results of the oto test are unreliable so its hard to know if it’s an adequate fc level or not.

So the regular "5 drop" (sorry don't know the abbreviations yet)chlorine test isn't good
It's as accurate as a test strip. It's OK if you know you should have between 6-10 Fc and it reads as such and you aren't testing for real until tomorrow.
Is it ok for the ph test?
Yes. 100% Great for Ph. My block bothered me and I had it on a saw to cut the useless half off when i realized what a nice handle the FC side was. Now I thank it everytime I use it.

Also, I took a pic so you'd get the idea, but had to hold it weird to use the camera. I hold it up with one hand and take 2 fingers from the other hand to block off the above and below value from the one I want to see. It's WAY easier to say does this one match, instead of which of these 3 are closer to that color. Many times it's still in between 2, but it's easy to get there.

Ok pool wizards - where am I at?
Just ran these tests using the little auto mixer:
FC 2
CC 1
TC 3
TA 20

For the TA it said “until it turns red”. Well it turned flagrantly pink at two drops. I did two more drops to see if it got darker but it didn’t.
And here’s a pic of my latest easy test I did before the ones above.

Great 👍🏻
Use it to raise TA to 40 - use PoolMath
Should be around 4 lbs.
Point your jets up to aerate the water as well.
Give it some time to mix & re test in 30 minutes or so

I don’t have that much baking soda. I’ll make a Costco run tomorrow. I have a 36” shear descent water fall that I leave on during the day. Does that help like pointing the jets up?

The sock is doing good. Probably a 1/4 of it left. I’ll just leave it hanging in there over night. That takes a few days to register right? Does it start working even if it doesn’t show on the test?

Sure does (y)

The sock method may take a day, but it didn't get trapped in the filter like if you added it to the skimmer. That's when it takes several days or a week.

Every little bit helps. And whatever already dissolved is helping somewhere in the pool.
