Pentair IC40 problem

My puppy decided to chew the power cord and now I'm not getting power to the chlorinator. Has anyone ever had luck replacing the cord? I called Pentair and was told a replacement is unavailable since it's hardwired to the unit.

While this looks bad, it can be repaired. If there is enough excess cord to still reach your power source after removing the damaged section and splicing the two "good" ends together, you can attempt to fix this. Obviously, you must turn off the power to the IC40 before attempting any repair. There are several methods to splice the good pieces back together, but, no matter how you do it, the repair must be waterproof. I recommend using solder seal butt joints with heat shrink wrap built-in. When the wires have been soldered back together use heat shrink tubing around the whole cord to cover the repair. As a deterrent to your puppy place a hard plastic cord organizer around the cord and sprinkle some chile powder on it. Good Luck!

Thanks! I'm going to give this a try. I think I'll also wrap flex seal tape over the heat shrink. Pentair cautioned against it but I figure what do I have to lose?

Unless you are skilled at splicing cables, be methodical and go very slow. Make certain you've got large enough diameter heat shrink tubing to cover not only the cord but the spliced area. Most heat shrink has a 3:1 shrink ratio, i.e., ¾" diameter will shrink as small as ¼". Also, place the heat shrink tubing over the remaining good cable before splicing! Nothing worse than finishing a splice and realizing you forgot to put the final heat shrink tube over the cable before starting the splice.

I recommend using Xtreme tape (X-Treme Tape - Self-Fusing Silicone Rubber Tape) instead of Flex Seal. While Flex Seal is good stuff, the Xtreme tape fuses to itself and forms a waterproof seal as long as you follow the directions for wrapping. If needed it can be removed with no adhesive residue.
