New Build - Houston, TX (Heights) - Finished Build!

Tile and coping were completed yesterday, 5 days for the tile and coping, 2 guys for 2 days, then 4 guys for 3 days. I never would have thought it would have taken that much time, but they were very meticulous (I will find out once I try out the spa overflow!!!) and it turned out nice. Backyard it still destroyed, but it shouldn't be long now, plaster is scheduled for next Sat. (28AUG21). weather permitting and fingers crossed. View attachment 365696View attachment 365697
Looks great. That spa will really be nice.
If your pool equipment is exposed to full sun throughout the day, you should consider a roof over it or a crank pull over shade system attached to the fence or put up some support poles. You may be required by HOA to keep it lower than your fence height.

Wow you used your entire backyard. Looks nice though! Are you planning on putting decking over all of the bare areas? I would suggest you put up some poles for shade sails. You'll get more privacy from those as well as the shade.
I didn't have much room in my backyard to begin with! Yes, the decking will be a combination of mulch in some areas, porcelain pavers and astro turf, a pergola will be built from the house out to the tanning area. Along the back we are putting in several eagleston holly's.

Thanks! We are really looking forward to actually using it!! When the fence is put up around the equipment I though of a sunshade type material to 1. protect the equipment from the sun and 2. aesthetics from the house when you look down into the yard (2 story house). No HOA at my address!

OH my that came out great! How did they do on the pool side corner?
They did a great job, it all lines up even! Today they are backfilling, removing all the trash and planting the trees in the back....I think I can actually dare to dream this project is getting towards the end!

Well of course....after no answer on exactly when the plaster would be installed, they showed today and plastered the pool. As we didn't think it was going to happen until after Labor Day, we left this morning on a flight to visit family for the weekend.

I just have these photos from my camera, but if this is blue slate pebble sheen, then I am not understanding the process. I don't see any "sheen" just looks like smooth Grey plaster? Does the surface get exposed after acid wash? For whatever reason my builder is saying acid wash happens when the pool is filled ( I don't think that is right). My gut tells me they will acid wash tomorrow and then the pool should be filled? Any insight into the process would be appreciated.

I really wanted to be around for this plaster install...ahhhhh!

Well, that’s a bummer you’re gone. Yes, the pebbles will be exposed with acid wash. I guess there is one where they fill it but I didn’t know that was also for an initial acid wash.

An acid wash in an empty pool creates lots of fumes and is somewhat a hazard for the crew. Truthfully, I don't know how they can stand it but I have seen it done at least 3 times. An acid wash with a full pool is simply dumping a lot of acid in the water and brushing. I don't know if one is better than the other but the acid in the water is a lot easier to do for the crew.

General clean up completed, trees planted, back gate moved, fence repaired, posts for the pool equipment fencing installed....ready and waiting for plaster, hopefully in the next few days, weather permitting!

What are those trees called? I’ve been looking for trees with thin bare trunks that grow high as to extend beyond a 6’ fence.

There a different ways to start up new plaster. Some better than others. Here is a link that talks about it:

Thanks for the article, there is little I can do now but trust the process of the builder and subs at this point. They are both very reputable, so maybe I worry too much!

They are Eagleston Holly's, there are several variations of Holly trees. These were selected for shade and their variety also did well during our "Texas freeze" in Feb. of this year.

They showed up and it looked like they pressured washed the plaster, installed all the plumbing fittings (drain covers, returns, bubblers, etc.) and it looks like they used a weed whacker with some sort of polishing end to the pool plaster and started filling around 10 am. At least I have my ReoLink camera to see what they are doing, wish I was there! Not to sure how long the fill will take (thankfully I got two new hoses with socks on them and left them out on the back porch...just in case they were needed. I would guess 12 - 15 hours (+/- 10k gallons, I was planning at looking at the meter) for the fill. When we get home we will have a pool with water in it!

Hi, I’ve read through your thread with interest; we are making final decisions on our project, as the dig is scheduled for next week!

Regarding LEDs separately controlled or all together. We don’t have bubblers, but we do have pool and spa. On one hand, i’m thinking it would be nice to have lights in pool and spa separately controlled, but on the other, a single control for all makes things simple. It’s good to know that multiple lighting zones don’t require separate transformers; I guess the key thing is to have all the zones home run to the EasyTouch, then I can wire it as I please.
