Is my salt cell done or do I need to change the settings? I turned it up to 100% and it runs 9am-9pm high speed 9-5. I don’t have chlorine. If I float chlorine tablets my pool
stays clear. I believe my cell is out of life, it’s about 4-5 years old. First picture is as it running normally and 2nd picture is the last lights shown when I press and hold the “more” button to run the diagnostics.

Welcome Pitsikoulis..... a couple of questions first:
1) How big is your pool in gallons?
2) How do you test your chemistry?
3) Does your cell have calcium build up on the plates that you can see?
4) Have you ever cleaned the cell? How often and when did you do it?

I would suggest you first try to capture a water sample directly out of the wall return.... use a cup and put it in the water with air in the cup then turn it up sideways on the return and capture that water. Test it for FC and if its higher in FC than the rest of the pool the cell *is* working.

Do you have clear sparkling water or is it dull, tinged in color or has obvious areas of algae outbreak?

How well do you understand pool chemistry? ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

Its 10,000 gallons. I test with a local Leslies and more recently Pinch-A-Penny. We had a guy come from leslies and do the acid wash on it in December. My husband did it in March and absolutely NO build up was on it. I can’t see the plates. They are inside the cell with no “window viewers.”

Ok..... please obtain your own test kit. We don't trust Leslie's OR Pinch-A-Penny for accuracy and consistency. They just need to sell something. Two test kits we endorse: The Taylor 2006C or the TF-100. I like the TF-100 with a salt test kit add on. Cheaper than the Taylor yet both use Taylor reagents. The TF-100 comes from www.tftestkits.net and the K-2006 Can be found online seller.
Test Kits Compared

Please do NOT routinely acid wash your cell or your pool surface as each time that is done it shortens the lifespan. ONLY clean when you see white build up on the cell. Try plain hose water first, diluted acid as *last resort*.

Ok, until we figure out what's going on you need to add Liquid Chlorine to raise your FC or you risk an algae oubreak.

Did you see post #3 for how to check chlorine from cell? Or you can ask pool stores if they check that brand of cells.

If your cell is 4-5 years old, it is most likely reach the end of its life, agree with YippeeSkippy diluted acid shortens the lifespan and should be used as *last resort*.

I have generic version of the IC20 cell you can borrow for testing purpose. (they don't work with automation, but functions fine as a stand alone SWG)

I am at that conclusion too. I think it’s out of life. What do you recommend cleaning it with? I’ve heard vinegar will work?

P,

If your SWCG's "Cell" light is on, most likely it is making chlorine..

I suspect that your pool is consuming the chlorine as fast as your little cell can make it.

I suggest that before you buy a new cell, that you run an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test or OCLT.. Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

If you fail the OCLT your cell will never keep up and you will need to do a SLAM.. SLAM Process

Thanks,

Jim R.
