TFP Meet the Expert!

So, we tried test number 2……and I was a HOT MESS! Matt, thank you greatly for doing the talking as my net sucked up the place. It’s clear to me the best route forward is to dis-include me.

For those who missed it, we tried to go live right to YouTube to discuss chlorine and where it’s all gone. Enjoy a short discussion…….

Lee, I was out running errands, but I will watch the recording, and I am certain you were not a hot mess! Maybe room temp? 😂

I felt like it was a good pipe-cleaner run for testing “direct to YouTube” streaming. I was on my wife’s MacBook Pro and hooked up to our Eero mesh WiFi out in our casita. My connection felt solid. @Leebo was definitely more laggy due to his lower speed connection and the fact that he was trying to run the show, stream to YouTube, and let his daughters watch the Disney+ Princess Movie Marathon in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby 17.1 THX surround sound. So the take away is that we’ll have to let @mknauss run the show since he’s the best looking one of the bunch and his connection seemed to be the most sturdy.

Guys, @Leebo was lagging just a bit but the video was good, and I learned something - I did not know that cal hypo could be so dangerous! @JoyfulNoise had on an awesome shirt, as well.

We gotta get Lee to quit being so hard on himself!

I would really like to see a thorough discussion on SLAM. So many folks get discouraged because they either think that it was going to be a quick fix, or they didn’t realize they needed to clear all the solid debris out, or all the myriad other reasons people are ready to give up. A discussion that gives the reasons why people end up with green pools, how long it could possibly take, how to move it along as quickly as possible, potential speed bumps, etc., would be great to link to.

Lee, I have issues with my wifi in my home office, and I have been participating in a lot of zoom meetings with different groups I am in. I have a signal booster just to get wifi in my office, but it is still a weak signal and zoom eats it alive. What I did to work around it was upgrade my phone plan to include 10g of hotspot per month. When I use my phone hotspot instead of my wifi I have a good signal and connectivity. Something else you might want to try is a long cat 5 cable from the back of the router to a laptop.

One of the largest items for today’s test was to see how difficult it would be to go right to YouTube. In honesty…..it was a snap. In a matter of about 3 minutes I was able to setup the livestream, even with my horrid connection. To compare it took me about an hour to convert the Zoom recording to a video format and upload it to YouTube. I'm not sure in the future which format we'll be using to publish content as they both have their pro's and con's. I'll be VERY interested in seeing the stats as they start to come in.
Did you send out a notification? I haven't gotten a notice about updates to this thread in days.
I had posted a message on this thread the other day, but that's it. This really wasn't discussed much as I didn't have high hopes that direct to YouTube would be very suscessful.

One of the benefits of Zoom, in my mind, is that participants can ask questions live.
Going direct to YouTube also allows viewers to ask questions and so forth. Instead of using the Zoom chat users are able to use YouTubes live chat.

You need a TFP.com banner on the videos.
If we continue to go direct to YouTube Zoom automatically inserts their banner. To remove this logo we'll have to subscribe to the "Business Plan" and that requires 10 licenses…..each at about $200 a year.

Got things uploaded to YouTube and watched things today. Looks like the weak link was sitting on my back porch.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet in person many different people here on TFP, and after watching @JoyfulNoise today I saw something amazing. It was like he’s been doing this for years. So fluid in his speech and so easy to understand. I could sit there for some time and listen to him. Heck of a job Matt!! On top of that, a Baby Yoda shirt!

How many of us here have sat on a Zoom meeting that went long for zero reason? Let’s be honest…..it sucks! Today we set a goal for 60 minutes and I fully expected it to go long. What was the finial time? 66 minutes. Without a doubt we would have went long without @mknauss there guiding things and telling us to hush up. On top of that I think (I easily could be wrong) he made sure every question was answered. Heck of a job Marty keeping things flowing along.

I’m fixing to finish things on YouTube shortly. It’s VERY rough in parts (especially with me in the picture) but I suspect users will enjoy watching this. Well done to you Matt and Marty. You both did a heck of a job!!
Watched the video yesterday. Matt, Marty and Lee, it was great to see and hear some of my TFP family. You guys are awesome and bring me/us such a wealth of information. It's been three years now and our pool's water has never had a hint of algae and always crystal clear (except for those dang windy sand days). I hope that there are more TFP videos in the future. And being posted on YouTube hopefully will reach out to may more people.

Thanks!

Stupid DOCSIS 3.1 modems only do Gig downstream. Cox only allows 35 Mbps up since the upstream is DOCSIS 3.0... So likely that's likely Matt's limitation being a fellow "Tucsonan" (not "Tucsonian" or "Tucsowegian" they get mad at you for those two, so I say them often). Though the downstream of the movie shouldn't really effect the upstream on most consumer connections :) . I am sorry I missed it but I had my windshield replaced and the first one was defective.. so I had to do it again right when you were having the stream. The roads in Arizona are a mine field. I've never lost a windshield before coming here, and so far I've lost three. Almost one per year.

I'll try to watch the recording of it tonight...
