Spence,

Yes the pool equipment.. I want to see how many pipes tie together and come into your pump.

Basically I'm trying to understand what the spaceship is there for..

Does your skimmer basket sit on top of the spaceship? Maybe it is just the pic, but it looks like your skimmer basket is only three inches deep???

I'd think about running some thin rope through the top of the spaceship and bringing the rope above the skimmer lid so you could use a 2x4 or metal bar to get some leverage..

Thanks,

Jim R.
Yes, the skimmer basket sits on top of the spaceship. Due to the lack of suction, there's actually a rock in the bottom of the basket to get it to stay in place. It's an ordinary basket, so the picture must distort it a bit.

I think that the skimmer is a Pac Fab Bermuda.

It does show a float valve.

Maybe it's the wrong one or maybe someone glued it down for some reason?

I've been following and I keep looking around the edge of the diverter. Zooming in, it looks like there's some type of grout, cement, or adhesive in the gap. Maybe it's just dirt or debris. Have you any repairs done lately which may resulted in something falling into the skimmer? Have you ever had the float valve out? See if you can figure out what type of material is around the edge with a small screwdriver or pick.

In this picture, it looks like there is a gasket or O-ring.

there is definitely both a gasket and dirt. it's a little crooked - one side higher than the other. Here's a pic of the inside of the lid: no serial/model number. :(
We haven't done any repairs - just moved in December 2020 and haven't done a thing. There was a big wind storm around the time we moved in, but the filter basket was in the skimmer and I don't see how that could have damaged it. - tho there was a lot of debris in the pool after.

It does say Pac Fab and there is a spot that says Model Number, but I can't see a model number in the box.

In any case, I think that it's a Bermuda skimmer unless the parts are not the original parts.

Maybe the gasket partly dissolved and melted to the plastic.

I suspect you if you pull hard enough, it will come loose, but it might also break the skimmer.

Yes, I'm worried about breaking it. I've called in the issue to the home warranty hoping that if the tech they send out breaks it, it will continue to be covered in the warranty.

meanwhile, I'm going to try power washing around it and pulling on it again.

Sounds like I'm not going to know what the issue is with the skimmer suction until we solve the issue with the stuck part, eh?

thank you everyone for your help

sounds like I should add water to the pool and see if that helps? am I reading this wrong?

Do yo have the equalizer line? If so there should be a fitting in the wall below the skimmer.

I don't think raising the water level will help you get the float valve out.

I believe the white thing on the left is the thing that adjusts the pool level. At the right edge of the picture is the skimmer. Ignore my irrigation project on the left :geek:
