Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Pinch-a-Penny in Plano, TX has 10.5% for $37.12 for 4 x 2.5 gallon jugs before tax. As noted, you pay extra for the jugs first time through. Free jug on your 10th bought.

Walmart in Katy (west of Houston) is 3.74 for one gallon of 10%. That beats the new HD prices easily. Leslies 12.5% used to be 4.00 in a box of four for 15.99. Then they went to 16.99, then during the early months of pandemic panic, went to 19.99. So now I have Walmart 3.75 (for $4.68 adjusted to 12.5% equivalent) or HD at 4.33 ($5.42 at 12.5% equivalent) or Leslies at $5.00. I hate to say it, but considering the ease of handling at Leslies (drive up to the door, carry out a 4-pack in a convenient box with hand holds) for a little more than Walmart or a little less than HD--and without having to go in Walmart of HD.

Pinch a Penny has some kind of refill deal with a 2.5 gallon reusable container that you have to buy for about $10 to start. The guy I asked there about the strength was unsure but added, "I'm sure it's as strong as you can get." Really? Last quotes I got for a SWCG install were not that appealing, and now with pools under construction everywhere, it's probably worse.
You find that Pinch a Penny is cheaper based on pool math calculator. The chlorine is staTed as 10.5% on the 2.5 gal jug but if you read the details it is really 10%. Also, after 10 refills you get a free fill so that offsets the 1 time purchase of the 2.5 gal jug. Furthermore the PaP store I go to tells me they get a fresh fill of their storage tank every 7-10 days and sometimes more often in middle of summer.
I have a small pump that I use to fill 3 (HD jugs) 1-gallon jugs with for easier handling.
hope this helps.

Dang, HD now $12.99 for 3g. Mighty steep increase from $8.99 last time I bought it! Will need to check out Walmart.

My local Walmart is restocked and ready for spring. $3.74/gallon for 10% chlorine and no limit on how many. I filled up a grocery cart.

Is that pretty much the cheapest place to get it?
The Lowes across the street has the exact same stuff for $3.98/gallon but they are out of stock and have been all winter. I assume they will get their allotment of spring stock at some point in the future. However Lowes has notices up in the pool section that states only 2 chlorinating products per person.

Good find for you. Home Depot has sufficient stock in our area as well as pool stores for LC. Only pool owners using TFP understand that liquid chlorine is really bleach. Maybe even that Wal-Mart is naïve to that fact.

But bleach is way less concentrated right?

Bleach is just the common name for liquid chlorine. Yes, bleach/liquid chlorine such as clorox brand is generally less concentrated, usually around 6%. The bleach/liquid chlorine I found is Pool Essentials brand and is 10% and is usually only found in the pool sections of walmart/lowes/home depot. Pool store bleach/liquid chlorine can be 12% or higher. The Pool Math app has a neat feature that will let you put in the price and strength of the bleach/liquid chlorine you have available and it will give you a standardized price/oz.

I'm in socal...Lowe's is $9 for 2 gallons of 10%, Home Depot $10 for 2 gal of 10%, Leslie's has 12.5% for $12 for 2 gal (using returnable bottles that require a deposit). Our walmart doesn't stock anything useful for our pool.

When I called Leslies in Orange County the guy said it was $12 for 2 gallons of 10%, when I asked about the % first he said 70% 🤦🏼‍♂️, then he looked and said 10%.

Our locations could stock different stuff, but our Leslie's carries both the box of 2 1-gallon bottles of 10% (similar to what HD and Lowe's sell) and also the 12.5% using the returnable bottles. I don't remember what the price on the 10% was, but it wasn't competitive with HD and Lowe's.

They won’t sell the returnable bottles unless your are a pool service

Interesting...I've never actually bought them there, since Lowe's has always provided the best option for me; but, I just called the Camarillo store and they'll sell to anyone willing to make the $9.49 bottle deposit (for 4 1-gallon bottles). There's no need to be a pool service. Odd that the stores would have different policies.

Current Austin.
HD: $12.99 for 3g 10%
Lowes: $8.99 for 2g 10%
Pool Store: $22 for 4g 12.5%
Leslie's: doesn't carry liquid
Walmart: no stock
HEB: $4.11 121oz 6%
Hopefully prices will come down after people stop drinking this stuff to kill Covid. 🤣🤣

I've seen a couple posts on diy bleach, curious if anyone has been successful. My HD has been out for a couple weeks and prices have soared. I use a stinner to auto feed liquid. Can the 1# bags of shock be added to water to make a liquid concentrate (or just dumped into 10g drum of water)? How many pounds to make 10% bleach?

Picked up 6g Pool Essentials 10% at Lowes yesterday, $4.24 ea., Better price than HD (which has no stock here). Jan 2021 date code. Lowes is 25 miles closer than Walmart for me, so not worth the extra drive. Much better price than anyone's 6% bleach around here.
