Hey folks! My next door neighbor turned me on to this forum!
I'm located in Brea, CA (in Orange County, not too far from Disneyland) and I'm in the process of having a pool built in my backyard. We'd been thinking of doing this for many years as my wife loves lounging in our neighbor's pool in summer and my son (now 11 years old) has been swimming competitively in the summer time since he was 5 years old (summer swim season was cancelled this year, sigh). So given that COVID keeping us all at home, we decided to go for it.
We have a relatively small back yard, and much of it was taken up by a slope. So we took out a sizable amount of the slope, and are now building a lap style pool with a tanning shelf and spa. The pool includes a 6' raised bond beam that serves as a retaining wall for a good portion of the remaining slope. General dimensions are 12' wide x48.5' long (including spa area). The tanning shelf area adds about an extra 7' of width. The shotcrete was done last week, and I've been wetting it all down twice a day since then. We're excited to see it start coming together.
