Latest number are attached. They told me I have chlorine lock. Upon googling that term, it led me to this forum saying it’s usually a bunk phrase used in the industry to make money. My pool is super cloudy like milk. We’ve tried everything and we use a salt water system. Pool is on 5,000 gallons. What should I do? They told me to super shock it.

Stop going to pool stores for advice.

Get your own TF-100 Test Kits or Taylor K-2006C test kit.

Create your signature with details of your pool and equipment.

What SWG do you have and what is your % generation and pump runtime?

Read ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

When you get your test kit post a full set of tests and we can figure out next steps to get your pool TFP clear. See...

What does SWG mean? I’m sorry but this is all new to me.

SWG = Salt Water Chlorine Generator.

Based on your pool store tests (which are highly unreliable) your CYA is perfect and is not "locking" your chlorine.

As Allen said, get a good test kit. I would also add some chlorine manually since the pool store tests show it as low and your pool is cloudy. Looks like the Walmart in Middle Island has plenty in stock as do most Home Depots, Lowes, etc.

Thank you! We have the intex crystal clear saltwater system with ECO. I should mention it’s only 5,000 gallon small above ground pool

Well, the pool store has done you no good. The question is, do you want to do a little work and take care of it yourself? Each pool season thousands of folks show up here. Probably half are willing and end up with a beautiful pool. The other? I'm not sure.

If yes, then my first suggestion is to stop going to the pool store. Their only response it to sell you something.

I will tell you, it didn't turn milky overnight and it will take time to clear. But, we can teach you how to get it sparkling and keep it that way for a lot less money than the pool store.

Not much credence is given to pool store testing around here. While you would think that a "professional" would be the best, unfortunately in most cases it is quite the opposite. Between employees who blindly trust the word of chemical sales representatives and high school kids working in the pool store for the summer you end up with poor results from their testing. Plus, the results of their "testing" is used to convince you that you need to buy things. Why do you think that testing is free?

But, what can you do?? We base our pool care system on accurate testing and only adding what the pool needs, when it needs it. To do that you need your own accurate test kit. Order a http://tftestkits.net/TF-100-Test-Kit-p4.html and at least include the http://tftestkits.net/XL-Option-p62.html . That will give you what you need while you are clearing the pool, and probably enough reagents for a couple of years normal use.

While you wait for it to get delivered, you have a homework reading assignment. Start with these:

Please don't go back to the pool store for a test kit. To effectively practice the TFPC methods, the FAS/DPD chlorine test is essential. The http://tftestkits.net/TF-100-Test-Kit-p4.html has this test while very few other kits do. The kits sold at the pool store generally won't won't cut it, but be careful pool store employees are known to say “it's the same thing”. Generally it's not!

Until you get your kit, each day I want you to put one bottle of bleach (yes, the same stuff you use for laundry) in the pool with the filter running. Be careful, it needs to be plain bleach, no scents, no EZ-Pour and none of the new Cloramax or laundry enhancing formulas.

So, welcome to TFP!!

Swg’s are not designed to overcome large fc losses from algae (algae is what is making the water cloudy) or to go from 0 fc which is what you probably started out with for a few days until your swg kicked in. They need help so supplement with liquid chlorine using PoolMath to calculate until u get a Test Kits Compared then we can help u get it clear with a SLAM Process. A proper test kit is required to do a slam & you cannot rely on pool store testing to accomplish this . Please read ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry to get a better understanding .

I’m going to the store to get some bleach, I’ll try and read through the material you supplied. I bet a lot people don’t do it because it truly seems so overwhelming. I’m ordering the test kit now, so hopefully it’ll be here sooner than later. My kids are so antsy to get in a swim. Thank you again for the advice.

We will walk you through it in baby steps if necessary. Never be afraid to say wait, I don't understand.

If yours is just milky it is better than some who show up here. We have had green frog ponds turned into beautiful pools.
