Getting started

Happy new year everybody!

When I bought my house I also managed to buy a Taylor K-2006 test kit which was recommended here on the website.
Did my first test in October:
FC 8.0
CC 0
TA 50
CYA 50
BOR 0
PH 7.2 In the pool math app it shows as 72 could not get it changed to 7.2?
CH 150

We hired somebody to maintain the pool as I had to go back to work (offshore), and my wife had to run the other part of the show.

So, after I returned back home, I cleaned both skimmers, suction inlet filter and did manual vacuum cleaning. Good fun. Did this together with my wife and thereafter we tested the water.

FC 5.6
CC 0
PH 7.6
TA 50 or 70, I said 50 because I got a color change pink and my wife said let’s continue as the manual said the color will turn bright red. However, it never really got bright red. We got more a less the same color as what you can see at the color comparator for PH 8.0 which was delivered with the test kit. Do we had to continue adding drops till we really get bright red?

CH after five drops R-0011L sample color was in my opinion pinker than red. I would say the color which you can see at 7.9 PH. Continued and got 130ppm.

CYA I would say 48 ppm but I remember that I read somewhere this you should be read as 40 ppm if I am correct?

Borate 0, I bought this test kit just to find out what was in my pool as the previous owner couldn`t give much information.

Temperature of the water 12 degrees (53 Fahrenheit).

With the water balance calculator, I get a saturation index -0,5.
Is this the reason when I go with my finger over the grout of my tiles that the grout dissolves a little?

In the time I was not there they had to drain the pool a bit due to the heavy rain we got (there is no overflow?) and later we had to fill in order to keep the skimmers working.
I think the water we get is quite soft and in the future I will fill up the pool with water from our rain water collecting tank.

Also, I am thinking about buying a robot cleaner. Found the dolphin active X5 but it looks like he is only available in Spain also I couldn't find personal reviews. My experience is 0 with them and my father says it's quite expensive (1500 euro). So, I hope some of you could give some advice. What I like is that it has 3 cycles (not really sure if this is important), filter basket removable from the top and cleans the waterline.

Thank you!

Nice post! I have some input for a couple of your tests:
I got a color change pink
Once you get a color change that STICKS you call it. I am sure you saw it when it flashed then went back. Once it STAYS changed stop. The colors are or *ish* than true colors.

CYA I would say 48 ppm

You will call it 50 as we round up. That way you make sure to have enough FC to keep the algae away.

Are you using PoolMath for your guide?

Hi Kim,

Thank you for clarifying our color issue.
Will do another test tomorrow.

Yes, I am using the pool math app and just upgraded myself. Not sure if you have access to my logs?
FC is 5,6 but when I add this in the app it shows 56. Same story with PH 7,6 and shows 76.
Will continue searching to solve this issue.

I have changed the keyboard but unfortunately the . doesn't show up.

On the tablet I got a full keyboard and could fill in the correct value.
On the telephone I solved the issue with copy and paste the . and that did the job as well.
Will play a bit more with that keyboard in IOS.
Thank you.
