Which Intex Sand Filter should I buy?

I received my 14x42 round above the ground pool today.
After cruising online and my own experience with a smaller pool, I know that I need to replace the low end filter that came with it.
After a little research I chose to go with a sand filter.

I found 2 filters that I think would work.

One is rated at 2100 GPH - Intex 2100 GPH Above Ground Pool Sand Filter Pump with Automatic Timer | 26645EG - Walmart.com
  • Minimum pool size (water capacity): 2,800 gal (10.6m3)
  • Maximum pool size (water capacity): 12,800 gal (48.4m3)

The other one is 2800 GPH - Intex 2800 GPH Above Ground Pool Sand Filter Pump with Automatic Timer | 26647EG - Walmart.com
  • Minimum pool size (water capacity): 5,500 gal (20.8m3)
  • Maximum pool size (water capacity): 17,200 gal (65.1m3)

My pool is 3,357 gallons.
The difference in price at walmart is only $15.
I would like to go with the bigger size filter but does anybody think this would be too much for the pool?
Thank you for any advice.

Get the bigger. You'll not need to run it as long every day. You want a pump/filter than can, at minimum, turn over the pool twice in 8 hours(if I'm remember correctly). The higher the gph rate, the more it can turn over the pool in those hours, which means you'll either have to run it fewer hours per day, or it'll turn it over more times in 8 hours.

Their sand filters are really no different than any other brand sand filter. Their cartridge filters are fairly small, but the sand filters are really on par with any other.

I had an Intex sand filter last year and I'm sorry, but my current 250lb Hayward sand filter dwarfs an Intex and not just in sand quantity.
I also found the Intex system, while by far the best bang for the buck, became very weak after only a week of running between backwashes and the pressure gauge never showed a change. The pump just wasn't anything great.

Unfortunately when it comes to sandfilters, size does matter.

I had the Intex 1600GPH sand system on a 15' x 48" last year and it did fine. I think this is what they're calling the 2100 you listed. With the filter, it does about 1600GPH.
For the money it's really impossible to beat.

For a small pool like yours honestly I'd stay with the smaller Intex sand system. There's no reason for the bigger one on such a small pool. Though, I also ran mine 24\7 because I saw no reason not to. I'd also highly recommend the Intex skimmer.

I was not talking about the filters. My post specifically said the pumps are fairly small ... relative to the other above ground pumps from the large pool equipment manufacturers.

Again, for the extra $15, I would get the larger filter and whatever small Intex pump that happens to come with it.

Thank you guys. Very helpful.
I decided to go with the larger one. I figured for only $15.

On another note:
I am now looking at saltwater systems to go with it.
By looking at the intex website, I realized there was 2 different systems.

One is just saltwater and the other one is ozone +saltwater.

Being a newbie, I'm having trouble to understand the difference and above all not sure what I need...
My main concern is water clarity and maintenance.
I really don't want to spend much time cleaning my kids new toy :)

Thank you again.

Forget the ozone, it is just not needed in a residential outdoor pool.
The SWG just adds the chlorine for you so you do not need to add it everyday.

I would recommend that you invest in one of the recommended test kits (Test Kits Compared) and spend some time reading up in Pool School, starting with ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry, to learn the chemistry so you can keep the pool clear and safe all summer.

I don't know why everyone else seems to have so many problems with Intex anything. I've been using Intex products for probably 7 years now. I've never had a single problem with ANY, Pools, Sand filter, cleaner, or lights. I read the instructions, follow them and never have a single issue that turned me off the brand. I've had to replace a hose after it got stepped on by a kid and split after 4 years, and I had to fix the power rocker switch, (cost me nothing), and that's it. And I'm actually using the little cartridge filter that came with the first one I bought 7 years ago, the 10x30, as a filter on the turtle pond.

Good choice on the larger one. You won't regret it. And as far as the chlorine generator, you don't need the ozone. But, I recommend following jblizzle's advice and learn how to keep a salt pool. I also recommend buy as many bags of salt as the instructions for the generator says to buy, but NOT to add them all. Start with 1 and half bags, get it circulated, turn on the SWGC, if it's happy, then leave it be. If not, add another quarter to half bag, circulate and repeat until the SWGC is happy. I find the instructions say to add too much.

I fail to see where anyone in here stated anything negative about the Intex equipment being discussed.
