Quogue new york
I was asked to start a new thread showing and telling about our $28,000 outdoor kitchen build. I’m going to start off saying we live the Hamptons. That’s New York Long Island. The quotes we received was crazy. The size started out 6x6. As we started adding the refrigerator - 38 inche BQ and double door garbage- it’s now 12x6. We decided to make a bar top on one side for people to sit. We got quotes for $18,000 to $28,000 that’s not for the refrigerator or BQ -SS doors or anything!!! That was a cement foundation - run 110 elect. stone with granite top. That’s not going to happen with those prices. It would of been $35,000. All the appliances from BQ guys in Jersey was $6,500 no tax. The no tax ended March 1 2019. I didn’t make that in time. So I said- I’m doing this job. I started looking at aluminum build with stone look. The foundation $1000 The aluminum parts $2500. Granite or blue stone 2 piece was $2k each. That’s $4k plus the cost of cut out. Then to stone it. Parts $1200. Run the electric $200 plus 3 - outlets. All in at $9,000. The appliances $6500.00 Total $15,500. In March I started digging out a 8 inches deep 12x6. The 6 ft side I made a extra 3 ft wide to put blue stone down for the bar chairs. Don’t laugh if you see a woman standing in the stone. I ended up going with stone foundation. I was not going to start mixing cement. Reason she standing there. I need to know where to make the hold for the umbrella. Lol. Just as I went out side to see witch way the wind was blowing each day- so not to get smoke in my face as I’m BQ.

Since I’m buying all the appliances from BQ guys in Jersey I had them do the lay out. Glad I did. I had the BQ to close to the double doors. They came up with this.

This is where I’m at as it’s been raining here. I did not install a sink. I wanted to but wife keep saying she not washing dishes outside and it’s all paper dishes and cups outside. She is right, someone dropped a glass by pool side last year and it was tuff getting the busted glass up. The new rule at this house. No glasses outside!!!!!! If I need to wash something- I had this. This is funny- I figure out I needed 2 tons of stone for foundation. $140. That morning guy who loads truck said - I only know yards. My truck hold 4 yards. I’m filling my truck- is that going to be enough? As you can see I have a lot of stone left over. Lol

Hey nice Marty! The plan looks great.

Haha, the rock...what are you going to do with it all..maybe a giveaway on Craigslist?

We don’t have gas at all at our house...with that 30 gallon tank, do you have to fill it up yourself or will someone come out and do it? How much does a tank like that weigh filled? This idea/project is spinning around in my head, darnit!

I dumped about 20 wheel barrel in my farm and that’s what’s left over. Guy gave me 2x to much. I may use a bit more as now I need to order 1 yard of sand to level it out. The 30 gallon tank is empty and have no clue what the cost is to fill it. I know it’s legal- 40 lb tank is not legal to fill and transport in your car.

I like the progress, and will be following it as you go. For reference, a yard is 27 cubic feet. If you measure the area and depth you can get an estimate of volume. So for your project 12’ x (6’ + 3’) x (8/12) is volume, divide by 27 and you get about 2.6 yards so yes, 4 yards is twice what you really need lol.

That design looks really nice. The only upgrade you might want to consider is going with a double burner on the side burner. We use our side burner a lot. Anything smelly gets cooked outside. For regular cooking the single burner is plenty but if you want to boil a big pot of water then the double burner is really useful. They are only a few hundred more than a single burner and if you have the 30 gallon tank it should be plenty to power it.

If you want to have some real fun since you are putting in a 30 gallon tank you might want to run an additional line somewhere to put a mosquito magnet in. Don’t know if you have a mosquito problem out there since you are pretty close to the water and breeze might keep them away. But if you do those mosquito magnets are great. We have 2 in our yard spaced out running on our 250 gallon tank and we are almost mosquito free. They burn just under about 1 gallon of propane per week.

We are installing a double burner on side of BQ. It was because of that burner we had to make the build 1 foot longer. Yesterday I was doing more digging and removing more stone and I popped my knee out. So bad I was sitting in my garage from 2 pm to 11 pm in pain. My wife tried to get me up to go to hospital but I couldn’t. So at 11 pm we called 911. I know I needed knee replacement. I may have it done this week.

Ouch, that is awful.

As I said before you will use that side burner a ton. Another thing you might want to consider is a warming drawer. They are great if you are doing a multi step cook. As an extra bonus it acts as a towel warmer.

This is the mosquito magnet that I was talking about. It’s just on the side of the house and keeps us mosquito free (mostly).

As I’m looking at your BQ build- you put a lot of stuff in. How long is it ? I’m liking that warmer draw. How much was that ? I didn’t see that on BQ site. I went with all
Coyote Single Burner: C1SBLP-------------------------------$459.00 2.Coyote 21” Refrig: CBIR---------------------------------------$1099.00 3.Coyote Dble Trash/Recyc: CTC-------------------------------$549.00 4.Coyote 36” Grill: C2SL36LP----------------------------------$2699.00 5.Coyote 31” Dbl Door: CDA2431------------------------------$289.00 6.Coyote Vents-----------------------------------------------------$60.00
7. BBQ guys Stainless steel umbrella mount with shaft: ID#2512346------------------------------------------------$29.99. The only thing we change was two - 38 inch BQ and double burner

I didn’t order anything from BQ yet. As I’m looking I need to change the double doors to 38 inches also. Things you miss when you don’t do it all the time. Now that I’m injured I will spent time going over everything. Does anyone use coyote?

I got the warming drawer from Costco. It is Bull product labeled under their name. The best price I found.

The other think I am not seeing is drawer space. I have two drawers and it probably enough but you need drawers. Also if you are running power, put outlets, both on the inside and outside. You can never have too many outlets.

For some reason I am struggling to upload the closeup of the tiles. Will get that to you later.

Take time, think it through ask questions. You want to get this right on the first try and I like you am not an expert or do this a lot so it is easy to let things slip.

It is 10.5’ long to counting the Egg area. There is a small L part that extends back but other than for storage (which you can never have enough of) that counter does not get used much. I would have gone bigger if I could have but was limited by the space. Also push yourself on this, you don’t want to have any regrets 2 years later on something you forgot. Think outside the box. Do you want to run an Ethernet cable there, should you put a wireless repeater to get better coverage in the backyard. How about speakers that integrate with your other outdoor speakers? Maybe a little cutout screen so you can mount an Echo dot in there and have voice control of stuff in the backyard.
