OOPS! PoolMath "lost" it's config - added too much chlorine

So - been a bit neglectful of pool - new equipment looming; refinishing this fall; just had 14 yo FAFCO solar replaced with Helicol system. It's Florida, so it's fair to question - "Why replace solar in July?". Simple. Old system had massive leaks together with lousy roof penetrations that...

Old solar shot - new solar or heat pump - Central FL

12 year old Fafco system (dealer installed - no longer in business). Panels are loaded with leaks - over 20 at this time. Many leaks fixed over the years per Fafco warranty - plugging tubes = reduced efficiency. The roof penetration tie-down straps with "caps" - some have come completely...

Pool Pump blew up in my face - Motor Replaced, but does this sound normal?

Called installer - not their problem - told me to call Pentair and open a new case. Did. Waiting. - - - Updated - - - Going through the warranty replacement queue once again. I'm thinking seal as well due to the mysterious stain (grease?) I'm seeing spread at the pump/motor joint.

Pool Pump blew up in my face - Motor Replaced, but does this sound normal?

Pump Noise on Vimeo Listen to the video at the link above - this pump motor (replaced by Pentair authorized tech) has had this oscillating noise since installed. When installed, barely noticeable. Now - well, listen and let me know what y'all think. By the way, the "stain" at the junction...

Pool Pump blew up in my face - lucky I'm tall!

You are so right! What would've happened if I wasn't here? It infuriates me no end that pool builders back in the day and even today feel the need to put the equipment as close as possible to an outside wall! Then, they leave everything open to the weather! I know some high-end homes have...

Pool Pump blew up in my face - lucky I'm tall!

Didn't know that and I used to do blasting in KY back in the late 70's - but with boosters and NH4/NO3 topped off with a few gals. of diesel. Eye Doctor. Hmm....let's see: - LEFT: - Cataract/implant (2002) - YAG for sub capsular cataract - successful (2003) - Retinal detachment -...

Pool Pump blew up in my face - lucky I'm tall!

Seems reasonable - that is what caps do - store potential! That's why the totally fried gasket and black drool! Glad the cap cover held, otherwise, might've been a trip to the ER or worse!

Well, it's obvious the cap failed, but the cap housing is intact. The rear end of the motor BLEW OFF. The wiring is fried on the back - not up top, unless when the cap blew, it went down through the motor and out the back!

Pool Pump blew up in my face - lucky I'm tall!

UPDATE: Pentair authorized service company is replacing the motor today, gratis. Initially, the repair agent tried to schedule me for NEXT TUESDAY. I replied to Pentair this was unacceptable, i.e.: this is Florida, it's hot, chlorine is likely depleted and pool will be green by next Tuesday...

Pool Pump blew up in my face - lucky I'm tall!

See - that's the funny thing. I looked at the motor just before - all that damage is from electrical flash. It wasn't a "little" pop; blue arc/flame popped up at least 2' - I was looking right at it! I cleaned out the strainer a couple days before and it looked almost like new - its only 32...

Pool Pump blew up in my face - lucky I'm tall!

Dave, and here I thought I was so smart! GENIUS! Local builder that built this pool as well as a new pool at my old home is my "go to guy". Never ever thought about going to pentair direct! Very weird the way everything happened - NOTHING in the house was affected so I don't think there was...

Pool Pump blew up in my face - lucky I'm tall!

I can wire a motor (done the Polaris Booster pump twice in the last 14 years); special wiring or timer setup for 2 speed? Pool only has 3 jets and a skimmer - nothing else. According to specs, this is an up-rated 1hp/1.25SF or 3/4hp/1.67 full rated. Which the heck motor should I go with for a...
