Variable Speed Pump AND SWG Questions

Thanks! I have a Hayward THP VS pump. If I'm reading this right, it will can be programmed to pick up where it left off?

Variable Speed Pump AND SWG Questions

So, having difficulty understanding a new set up... I 'had' a plain old DE filter with a timer. Timer threw power on, pump came on. Used liquid chlorine. Timer shut off, pump motor shut off. Now I have a Hayward VS pump and a Pure Chlor SWG. I assume I need the timer still. I tried...

    Solar cover part of SLAM?

Had a very small amount of algae show. Since it's the beginning of the season, SLAM has commenced. I'm a day+ in, water is clear, CC is zero, did consume FC overnight, so not done. Since my solar cover was on the water when algae was present, should I keep in on during the SLAM process? It's...

    Cyanuric Acid Too High

Today's numbers: CYA 40-45 (I got a second test from Leslie's, who said 35. Getting liq chlorine anyway.) FC 1.0 CC 0.6 PH 7.4 TA 130 CH 100 Phosphates 0 (or nearly so. I have a test kit and tested with the rest.) Looks like I am in better shape. Will boost the FC up to 5 - 6 which...

Adding CYA and freaking out at the results

Thanks! I'll stick with letting it warm to 'room temperature' then.

Adding CYA and freaking out at the results

How cold, is too cold for a CYA test? I've read that temperature has an impact. I've been bringing a water sample in the house, and letting it sit on the counter 30-60 minutes for my CYA tests. Just kind of wondering how cold is too cold. Thanks!

    Cyanuric Acid Too High

Well, first partial drain and refill completed. I was a little aggressive with the drain part (because I lost track of time), but I filled it back up immediately. Ran the filter for a couple hours with the robot in there. Measured CYA came down to 60...using the dilution method for testing...

    Cyanuric Acid Too High

One other question... Solar cover on, or off, during this little adventure? Thanks!

    Cyanuric Acid Too High

Agreed. I'm going to check CYA each refill. I expect this will take more than a pool's worth of water in total, but the vinyl liner kinda requires it. Good news is once I get there, I can keep it there afterwards.

    Cyanuric Acid Too High

Thank you mknauss! OK - with a diluted test I got a reading right around 110 (55 times 2 for dilution). I'll confess my accuracy may be off...new test kit. I'm in the process of pumping it down about 12 inches, which will put the water line right around that 18 inches of exposed vinyl. I'll...

    Cyanuric Acid Too High

Thank you! I've got a Taylor K-2006 and a Pentair CYA test kit. Both were high. I'll run a diluted solution through and see if I can nail down the actual reading. Read the Pool School book last fall, and will reread as soon as I can.

    Cyanuric Acid Too High

Opened the pool. Had initial high chlorine usage. (Couldn't keep FC overnight.) Was waiting for chemicals. Just tested the CYA levels, and they exceed the 100ppm max of both my test kits. We had this issue last year, which is when I switched to liquid chlorine...period. I knocked the CYA...
