    Pump only primes on backwash

Note that the heater on the left is non-functional and not hooked up to anything. Just tried replacing the spider gasket assembly (since apparently you can't buy just the gasket anymore) and that made no difference.

    I've got the groundhog blues

Well, it seems that my husband has fixed the problem while I was posting this :p but thank you for the suggestion about the mesh wire - I'll try wrapping the above ground stuff.

    Pump only primes on backwash

Also we don't have any fancy things like a spa or a robot cleaner. Just 2 skimmers, chlorinator, and pump.

    Pump only primes on backwash

Ok so we seem to have fixed the groundhog hole in our pipe, but now when we turn the pump on, it won't prime. Other info: 1. Pump primes when filter is set to backwash. 2. Water level is high enough. 3. I changed the pump basket o-ring. 4. I closed both of the skimmer valves, one at a time, and...

    I've got the groundhog blues

Yeah ... Digging isn't at the top of our list of things to do at the moment :D We do have some extra HDPE; is it possible to repair the existing pipe?

    Vacuum accident by idiot

2 quick comments: I always re-fill the pump filter with water if I've had the pump off for more than a few minutes. Also if your skimmer was sucking like a toilet bowl, either yes your weir was stuck, or the water level in the pool was too low. Welcome to your pool adventure!

    Getting dirt out of Pool

Skimmer socks! Also, if you have a sand filter, you can add a little DE to help filter out the finer stuff.

    I've got the groundhog blues

So, we have black HDPE pipe that goes out the back of our pool house and then underground to our skimmers. A few years ago, a groundhog chewed a few nice holes in the line. At the time, we "fixed" the problem with some electricians tape. What's a better way to fix this - aside from digging up...

There's no way this is going to work, right? (Pump motor replacement)

Is this going to be a big deal going forward, if it works? I can always order another switch.
