IG Pool remodel in Tempe AZ

Interesting to see the differences in street lamps across the country. Here in FL, they are usually mounted to the wooden utility poles used by the electric company, and are wired off the transformers that supply service to the house. We actually had a light installed on our utility pole...

    Autumn has arrived in Florida

It rained all day today here in Brooksville. It wasn't a summertime humid rain either. It was a cool, dark, and rainy day. On the license plate colors, all of the Yankees are starting to return for the milder Floridian winters.

Florida New Build - Pool, Spa, Fireplace

10'' Roots are huge, 23'' trunk diameter is huge. My biggest pines are 60' as well, but 18-19'' diameter at most around the trunk. FWIW, in Hernando County where I am at, trees of 26''+ diameter require permit for removal. Most of the pines around here don't seem to get past 20'' diameter...

Florida New Build - Pool, Spa, Fireplace

Just out of curiosity, do the pines by you develop deep taproots? If so, did the excavation crew have to dig really deep to get it out, or was the trunk not in the way of the pool dig area? I have taken down about 4 mature longleafs in my yard, ranging from 16-18'' in diameter. I have another...

Florida New Build - Pool, Spa, Fireplace

Hey, I was thinking of your thread the other day, and can't believe I missed your updates. I noticed the collection of tree roots in your excavation pics, did you have a tree removed from the pool pit? Those were some thick roots that were pulled. They remind me of the longleaf pine lateral...

How long can you stay in the gunite phase?

Were you the one building the pool in Amelia Isle, FL? If so, the main thing to worry about in FL, at least inland FL anyway, is the high water table, coupled with the soft soil. Gunite pools left empty w/o weep holes drilled into them for the groundwater to flow in face a very real...

Construction Time! Miami, FL New Pool with Pictures and Prices Included.

there's no way in hel that's acceptable on a new pool install. that is visibly out of square w/o having to bust out a tape measure. i would have them fix that too... just remember that after you cut the checks, and the subs are long gone, that you will have to live with this, and you should...

Excavation In Texas has begun! OB~ will Post Pictures as we go~first pool ever~

Honestly, three skimmers would be a waste/counterproductive for the reason I already stated. Two skimmers is plenty enough for you, when considering the minimal leaf debris you will face. Some will blow in the wind from places, but no where near enough for three skimmers, and a lack of trees...

Excavation In Texas has begun! OB~ will Post Pictures as we go~first pool ever~

I know you will have a really large pool, but are you certain you want three skimmers? Is the debris accumulation potential really that bad? The reason I am asking is that the suction, flow rate, skimming power, whatever you want to call it is going to be split amongst the number of skimmers...

It is important to note, however, that sometimes these hydrostatic relief valves fail/get stuck/ break. If you EVER drain a pool for an extended period in FL, drill a hole in the deep end. It can be repatched before refill. Way too many pools that are drained in FL float due to high water...

Excavation In Texas has begun! OB~ will Post Pictures as we go~first pool ever~

Considering your rebar guy is being such a scumbag, make sure to ask the gunite guys if everything is ok with the rebar work when they come out for their pre-shoot inspection. That will be your last chance to remedy any errors. I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but I would definitely go...

    Autumn has arrived in Florida

Yeah, we've noticed the difference here in Brooksville, FL for sure. Midday is nice w/ no humidity, but the evenings and mornings certainly are cool.
