I had same issue and updated the transformer and I think the ground wire is key on new design to prevent the relay and board getting fried. Did you keep plastic wrapping on the transformer?

i used jb weld waterweld and fiberglass cloth to bond to my surface. The jb weld sincle coat on leak area, let dry then laid cut piece of fine mesh fiberglass cloth (lowes) then applied layer of JB weld over the fiberglass mesh.. Dont use to much jb weld and think layers vs one thick layer...

My polaris sweep tail appears to by floating when the device is running but not floating when off then it is resting on bottom of pool
