What is a normal level of chlorine loss?

A related question - does a higher CYA lead to lower rates of chlorine loss? I thought that was the tradeoff - more expensive to SLAM, but cheaper otherwise.

What is a normal level of chlorine loss?

Thanks Texas Splash. Think I will do that tonight. Good to know it's not totally unreasonable. I recently SLAMed the pool; maybe I missed a spot.

What is a normal level of chlorine loss?

I live in Dallas, TX. We've had an unusually hot and dry May. I keep my CYA around 60 for the spring / summer months, and I have been losing around 4 ppm of chlorine each day. Is this normal? I seem to remember losing around 3 per day last year, even in the summer.

Does a mesh cover help reduce net chlorine loss?

Does a mesh cover help reduce net chlorine loss? (The mesh cover is designed to prevent leaves from entering the pool, but I wonder if it offers a secondary benefit.) I assume that the pool would have less UV exposure with a mesh cover on, but I am curious whether that is correct or not. I...

Year-round safety net + seasonal leaf cover *vs.* Year-round safety cover

Thanks Dirk. Ya, seems like other TFP threads are saying the same thing and to expect $1k - $1.5k a year, over the very long run.

Year-round safety net + seasonal leaf cover *vs.* Year-round safety cover

Thank you both. If I need to let the pool breathe that often during the whole year, that's probably a deal breaker for me and I would go with the net + seasonal leaf cover. Really good to know. And now I understand why you would ask if I am interested in a motorized cover :). I would be...

Year-round safety net + seasonal leaf cover *vs.* Year-round safety cover

Have small kids. Debating two options: 1) Year-round safety net + seasonal leaf cover *vs.* 2) Year-round safety cover. Curious if anyone has faced this decision and if you have any stories to share. The advantages to Year-round safety net + seasonal leaf cover would seem to be: - I can see...

Speed Stir not turning on (2 of them)

Thanks. Just tried that and it didn't work. There's no special trick to this, right? Put in the batteries, close the lid, turn it on?

Speed Stir not turning on (2 of them)

Ordered 1 Speedstir from Wal-Mart, which didn't turn on. Tried two sets of batteries. Decided to order another Speedstir from Amazon. This one didn't turn on either. Has anyone else had this experience? If you're thinking of getting one to save time, consider that you may be adding time...

Finding it difficult to complete SLAM

Before I started vacuuming this afternoon, both the water in my pool and spa were clear. There was a layer of green algae settled on the bottom of both. Attached is a picture of my spa after vacuuming the pool this afternoon. Again, this water was clear before I started vacuuming. The...

Finding it difficult to complete SLAM

Thanks. Signature updated with motor specs. I have been recording my data in Excel, but I can start recording on PoolMath. How do I share logs from my phone app? It appears I don't understand something about the algae. What is the reason it is recommended to routinely vacuum dead algae from...

Finding it difficult to complete SLAM

I test 3 times a day and brush 2 times a day. I lost 0.5-1.0 ppm of FC overnight with 0 CC. My reagents are fresh. Each SLAM lasted about a week. Someone had suggested that "low and slow" was best for filtering, which sounded to me like maybe my filter was playing a losing hand to begin with.

Finding it difficult to complete SLAM

I started my first SLAM on May 6th. I had (I thought) completed the process twice (passed all 3 tests), but each time the algae comes back with a vengeance. Currently on my 3rd SLAM and looking for advice on a possible equipment upgrade. I have a Triton II TR-100 sand filter with 450 pounds...

Sand Filter allowing DE to pass through (I think)

So...your comment, Flying Tivo, pointed me in a direction I had not thought to look. Reading up on this a bit more...I have a Centurion B855 2-horse single speed motor that runs at 3450 RPMs. Any ideas how to convert that to GPM so I can determine if I'm damaging my equipment?
