    Shocking Algae

Thank you. Then we will not do that. Can slamming take care of algae even if the algae problem is really bad? Is there a point that slamming will not work with algae?

    Shocking Algae

Good question. One reason was to kill any ringworm that might have remained in the pool and the other reason was I was to get all the algae off. I don't see why that is going to be needed for the second and am trying to decide about the first. We are in the process of heavy shocking/slamming.

    Shocking Algae

Thank you. I guess the question is how much. And I wonder what options I have at this point.

    Shocking Algae

That was my question. He said it would kill the stuff in the filter and rest of the pool and make it easer to clean. I was trying to figure out why you would ever drain a pool because of bad algae if super duper shocking it could kill all the existing algae.

    Shocking Algae

A raccoon pooped in our pool so we need to drain the pool for health reasons. Also, due to a variety of subsequent issues, we also now have a major green algae problem. I am having a pool service handle this. They are recommending putting in like 50 pounds of shock in order to kill off the...

Emergency Raccoon Poop and Pool Problem

A related question, when draining the pool, is it possible to get every bit of the water out? We drained it years ago and there was always a thin layer of water at the bottom.

Emergency Raccoon Poop and Pool Problem

@Rocket J Squirrel Thank you for the great suggestions. I am exploring each of them. This is going to be a chore no matter what. @Oly Everyone can make their own choices, but it's definitely something to be aware of. @YippeeSkippy I agree that the cartridges will need to be discarded...

Emergency Raccoon Poop and Pool Problem

We are confident about the roundworm because two of us saw what we were sure was a long, white/clear baylisascaris roundworm in the scat. We looked up pictures and it looked exactly the same. Given that and that about 70% of raccoons in Texas have roundworm, we are confident that is the...

Emergency Raccoon Poop and Pool Problem

We had a raccoon poop in the pool about a month ago and we have not used the pool since then. We tried to remove the poop, but it dissolved instantly. A majority of raccoons carry Baylisascaris procyonis, a roundworm which is not a problem for raccoons, but is extremely dangerous and often...

    Calcium Hardness Level Discrepancies

Thanks. It struck me because those ranges are dramatically different. The old maximum is the new minimum.

    Calcium Hardness Level Discrepancies

I see two different recommended calcium hardness levels on TPF: 220-350 ppm: ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry - Trouble Free Pool 350-550 ppm: What Are My Ideal Pool Levels? - Trouble Free Pool The second and higher range is from what appears to be a newer TFP website page. Anyway, can...

Scoop on Ideal Total Alkalinity (and Use of Pucks)

Thanks for the information. I read the thread I think you were referring to. I have a SWCG as well, although right now I have just been using LC. I am sure that starting up the SWCG will alter things a fair amount.

Ghost in the Machine - Intelliflo VSP Changing Speeds on Its Own

Thanks Bill. Jim is right, my EasyTouch is not connected to the internet. That syncing seems like a real issue which Pentair needs to address.

Ghost in the Machine - Intelliflo VSP Changing Speeds on Its Own

Thank you Jim. Great info on the circuits. I will figure out how to turn on the right circuit. I need ScreenLogic. Badly. Once I have that, I think everything will become much more efficient. I do want to have some different schedules with the pump. G

Ghost in the Machine - Intelliflo VSP Changing Speeds on Its Own

I changed 1/8 - 5/8 all to 1600 RPM and that brought it down. Given that the next three are 1000 RPM, my guess is it will change to that at some point.
