    Leaking pool?

If you have not noticed any leaks prior to this it is more than likely the built-in overflow. Look along your tile line for this, it's usually a white/gray grate or some sort of hole where water can flow when it gets above a certain point. -Eric

    Skimmer weir

I can't recall any situation where I've ever seen that. Surprising they think half of a weir door is "functioning properly"??? Anyway, glad to hear that you got it fixed! Perhaps this will be a helpful thread to future visitors. -Eric

Newbie here with recurring staining, high CYA and FC levels

Also a reminder to never mix chlorine. You're not supposed to mix old with new, and you're not supposed to mix different kinds. Keep them far away from each other. Not sure what the OP may have around, so just wanted to be sure to note this as well. Winter water conditions are usually fairly...

    What do I have?

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but what if OP's plumbing is not yet sorted for a SWG? From what I have read so far this seems to be the case. Just looking out for OP here because I see where "testing" it maybe a confusing task if there's currently no way to set it up without chopping...

how to keep water flowing even after skimmer fills with leaves?

This is a very common issue that we have to deal with. Sometimes it halts suction and drops pressure (with no tower), sometimes it'll suck air (usually with the tower). In my experience, the main drain would help quite a bit, but as you stated it is not an option. What Texas Splash posted is...

    What do I have?

Oh okay cool! Usually that second timer is for something else, good to know! :goodjob: Isn't it!! I can imagine that when they are shipped they have some sort of identification, but I have yet to see a salt cell like this that is clearly labeled. There are a few different size TurboCells; that...

    What do I have?

Ah, OP, someone else may need to chime in here since we don't do electrical work, but by the looks of things, I think you may need an upgraded panel to run your dual speed on a certain setting. With your equipment, I personally do not see how you could adjust the speed. From a bit of research...

    What do I have?

It looks like it is a Compu Pool replacement for a Hayward T-CELL-15 (maybe smaller, needs to be identified). Should be compatible assuming everything actually works. I do not like when salt cells are rebranded, it just makes things more confusing. -Eric - - - Updated - - - Just wanted to...

    Rain hosed my chemistry

I do not know how well received this will be by the forums, but certainly a "convenient" way to add CYA and additional chlorine right now would be a few tablets. It would depend on how quickly you want the CYA to be introduced and how much you want. How long have you been seeing the white dust...

    New to the pool

The pool store just left it like that? With no circulation? JamesW beat me to it but it sounds like cyanuric acid, bicarb, baking soda... could be a few things. -Eric Edit: Do you mean that there is no suction at all in your pool or do you mean that this particular skimmer is not sucking...

    What do I have?

I'm wondering the same with the salt cell. Unless the system has a bypas valve for the salt cell, he wouldn't be able to run it without the cell installed... Somewhat odd that they just left a SWG unit and control panel back there. -Eric

    New Pool Owner: Questions

As Yippee stated, testing for metals will be the best way to know for sure. Perhaps a question to ask in the mean time is if there is any visible red in the stain? Greens and browns can be organic, but throw in some red, blue, black, or purple and you may have in issue with metal staining...

How much do you save by managing your own pool chemistry?

I went ahead and did the math for maintaining my pool at home. Chlorine value is right around $400 depending on storms or whatever, acid value could be approximated around $80-100. The pool gets quite a few leaves as well as a bit of runoff from planters. Mine is also 20k gal. I would estimate...

    White Splotching

Haha yeah the swimming season is a bit out still. I think that is when I started to notice it come to think of it; cloudy days brought it out more than the sunny days, same with my pool. Hmm -Eric

beginning pool maintenance : how to tell my sanitizer type?

Yeah, tabs will eventually cause trouble if you use them too much. You'll mainly want to use liquid chlorine as your sanitizer, especially if you're in Cali. Watch out for "cheap" granular chlorine; while liquid chlorine adds sodium (nothing much to worry about), cheap granulars will typically...
