Hey guys, sorry to post up another question so soon! I have seen this once in a blue moon, but I am trying to figure out exactly what these are. This is a relatively new pool, and I've read a bit about how incorrect plastering can lead to this. I'm looking for a few opinions.. These little spots are actually all around the pool in random places.

Chems:
FC: ~5ppm
pH: ~7.7
CH: ~225-275
CYA: 40-60

Thanks everyone!

EDIT: No chemicals that I have ever used on this pool would stain white. I use limited tablets, chlorine (cal-hypo, due to low CH), and acid here.

If this is a new plaster job, then I'd suspect this -

Scientific Evidence on Plaster Spotting

Could be too much calcium chloride was used in the plaster. There may be no easy fix to it and, if it is new, the plaster applicator and PB needs to look at it. It could also be calcium nodules if there are pinholes or cracks in the plaster.

Can you get a better image and/or stick you hand in there and feel the surface?

This was actually not taken recently, I've been meaning to ask someone for a while. I can try to get another image eventually if necessary. This is what I suspected as well, I've seen some of onBalance's research, and that is what seems to be the answer.

I will notify the customer once I can be certain of what it is, but the pool is about a year old. Thank you for your reply!

I too have similar spots in my new plaster pool but have lead myself to believe they happen and will change over time with sun, chemical and temps. Likely fading along with rest of the plaster.

I actually just remembered that my pool has this issue in a few spots.. definitely nowhere that I've ever dropped chemicals in. It just appeared there a year or two after replastering it. Joyful has a good point here. In either case, they do tend to shift appearance with the time of day--presumably because the water tint changes a bit with the sun.

Incidentally I don't even see these spots on a bright, sunny day. They only appear when it's cloudy and the water is still without reflection. Since I'm still routinely brushing, skimming and getting water sample, I just tend to be more aware of things that I probably won't notice as much later on when we're...swimming finally.

Haha yeah the swimming season is a bit out still. I think that is when I started to notice it come to think of it; cloudy days brought it out more than the sunny days, same with my pool. Hmm
