    New fiberglass SWG pool

The reply to your question about CH pretty much answers my earlier thread today on that question....Thanks! Consider putting a flow meter in your system if you have a variable speed pump. I am delighted with the one listed in my signature. Sure, you can get by fine without it, but it makes...

CH level in fiberglass pool with SWG

My pool's un-adjusted CH is 90. I am aware recommended ranges are 250-650 (TFP a,b,c's), 350 to 550 recommended | 250 to 650 acceptable (TFP Pool Math), 200-400 recommended | 150-1000 acceptable (APSP and NSPF). I go by the TFP recommendations for all the other chemical levels, however I'm...

Michael flood; now salt is 6000

I went ahead and replaced 1/3 of the water with fresh, as you guys recommended, and that brought the salt reading down to 4200 on the LaMotte meter. The Aquarite's high salt light comes on if it exceeds the maximum allowable amperage, but the trouble shooting guide doesn't say what that trigger...

Michael flood; now salt is 6000

Michael flooded our pool with soundside water. Cleaned in out, drew it down 1/3, topped it off with municipal water, and slammed overnight. Pool is now close to clear and numbers are good except needed 45 oz baking soda for TA and 37 oz. CYA ( in sock); However salt is 6000 ppm on my LaMotte...

Pentair CYA test shows near zero

Jim, the rod has markings for as low as 20 ppm. Here's a picture where you can see the black dot.

Pentair CYA test shows near zero

I just got a Pentair CYA test kit. It shows the cyanuric acid level in my pool to be near zero. Is this a trustworthy test? Should I should buy some stabilizer, and mix up a test solution to verify the Pentair kit is giving the correct results? PoolMath indicates 3 ml stabilizer in 5 gal...

    Liquid Chlrone

Looks fine to me. Great deal at 2 for 1. Note that it's 12.5% rather than the usual 10% concentration. No big deal; Just put 12.5% in the Pool Math calculator when figuring out how much to use.

    Sand supply

Try Ace Hardware. In many areas, it's either stocked or available ship to store free by ordering online. They carry HTH brand pool sand in 50 lb bags; Ace stock number is 83029.

Could you help me with Pump Selection / PVC plumbing questions?

I don't see any unions in your picture. The fittings at your pump are pipe thread on the pump side and slip-on on the pipe side. It looks like you have plenty of room to cut the outlet pipe (the vertical one), and install a proper union in it. The inlet is more of a problem because the...

Moving multiport valve position with pump on

Jay, That sounds like a good compromise. I'll give it a try.

Pump dead/dying and need recommendations on a new one (brand, HP, etc)

I just installed a Pentair SuperFlo VS pump. It's obviously too soon to judge the long term reliability. However, it has a built-in watt meter, and I can tell the savings from being able to optimize the flow rates for my pool are significant compared to the single speed pump it replaced. It...

Moving multiport valve position with pump on

Everywhere instructs you to turn off the pump before changing the multi-port valve's position; else the seal may be blown. Now that I have a SuperFlo VS pump, that is a pain because it puts the pump into prime mode every time the power is turned on. Is it really such a no-no to quickly move...

    Pool pump replacement choices

Great lead. Thank you. That's helpful; I obviously have more to learn. I'm just coming up to speed; everything pool related has been handled by the pool guy up until now; which included running the 1HP Whisperflo 24x7, costing us ~$120/mo. of electricity. Fortunately, pool season is only 3-4...

    Pool pump replacement choices

I need help in deciding on a replacement for our 1.25 SFHP Whisperflo WF-24, which has succumbed to salt-air corrosion deterioration. According to the charts, the WF-24 (installed by previous owner, and run 24x7) flows 88 GPM, at the 30' head I estimate for our installation. That pump seems way...
