    Pool fill, sequestrant and filtering

A simpler question - is it ok to add sequestrant with a new full and circulate a few days without filtering?

    Pool fill, sequestrant and filtering

My pool was already shut down for the season. Now I am replacing the liner before winter rather than doing so in the spring to ensure the pool is good for an early spring event. I am filling with city water hauled in, but there is iron on the city water in my area. My old liner was stained, and...

Thanks, RJS. Winter cover it is then.

    Autocover with low water level

I have an auto cover. I am trying to identify a leak in the pool. Since I am about ready to close the pool, and the water level needs to go down anyway, I am allowing the water level to drop from the leak hoping it will stop at some point, and I can figure out where the leak is based on where it...

    Liner replacement

Can anyone comment on the wisdom (or lack thereof) of doing your own liner replacement? I am a very solid do-it-yourself-er, but I do not want to regret trying this. How about directly purchasing a liner on line? If you think that is a good idea, does anyone have experience with any on line...

    Antifreeze

Joyful Noise, I am not experiencing any odors this year. That was only happening last year when things were out of whack. And yes, opening it regularly did help eliminate the odor. Thanks for the suggestion to open the pool regularly when not in use.

    CYA consumption

Texas Splash, thanks for reminding me of the bacteria mechanism. I remembered reading about how CYA disappears over the winter, but thought it was algae. I did not recall it was bacteria. Thanks also for the "bad batch" thought. That may well be what it is. I bought an unusual brand of CYA...

    Antifreeze

Joyful Noise I have a fully opaque auto cover on my pool, and when things are right like this year, I only lose 1 or 1.5 ppm per day if the pool is not used. You are right that I will see 2 to 4 when it is open, but I was seeing that when it was closed up tight. Nobody ever complained about...

    CYA consumption

Joey Thanks for your input. I add the stabilizer in a sock put inside the skimmer. I have been doing that for quite some time and it has always worked well. I always wait a week to check my stabilizer level after an addition. So I am confident that my addition methods and testing regimen are...

    Antifreeze

Wow. That thread is deja vu for me from last year. I chased all of the things that came up in that thread and had an almost identical experience - everything looking good but chewing up the chlorine day after day. Sorry I was not around to share what I had seen. I am really convinced it was the...

    CYA consumption

Is there anything other than algae that consumes CYA. I have added enough CYA to have raised the CYA 80+ ppm (21 pounds in 30,000 gallons), and I am still below 40. I have not had a single algae outbreak, and everything has looked good all season. I jus can't figure out why the CYA is not coming...

    Antifreeze

Hopefully this is an appropriate place to post this. It has been a long time since I have been in the forum since this year has gone very well thanks to all the help from the TFP community. Thank you. It has been nice to spend the time enjoying the pool instead of trying to figure it out. I...

    Pool water slightly cloudy

I would bet you are clogging quickly because it is picking up the particles making it cloudy. I do not have a sand filter so I have not done it before. But reading the procedure and thinking of the flow dynamics I think the pressure should rise and settle in pretty quickly after you add the DE...

    Green swamp

Marsha, what kind of filter do you have? Once the SLAM is killing the algae faster than it is reproducing, you will eventually kill it all (or nearly all). That is when you will pass the OCLT. That test tells you that there is only a very small amount of "stuff" consuming your chlorine...

they just need a remote control robot that will pour jugs of bleach into your pool!
