Such a shame they can't, won't or don't hose off the over-spray right away. After they did it, they said, "yeh, yeh no big deal, we'll just use a wire wheel and buff it off." It never happened and was ticking me off so 'Just' became a half-day of me fiddling around with a few different methods to get it off but not leave marks on the blocks. I can still see it but no one else can :). All because the plastic sheeting was put on sloppy.

Probably a good time for you to tell them you'll be happy and easy to get along with if it's cleaned right away and nothing more happens on those days you've ruled out. One fair comment is to consider weather requirements, or allow wider timelines. For example in our case with the plaster crew, it was better for us to trust them and go with their availability and the right weather for the job.

It's fun hearing about your progress and it's going to be an awesome backyard!

Kim, my hubby and I were out there when they got here. I went over all the particulars of the step heights, the spa bench heights, steps into the spa and steps into the bubbler shelf. The head guy is SUPER nice, great sense of humor and has a wife my height. He had great suggestions and he is doing exactly what I wanted. I'm super impressed. My PB was supposed to be here. He's not. SO glad I was so I could make sure it's correct. Another potential crisis averted!!

I am so happy you are getting so much progress done. I have the opinion now that a lot of PB's really aren't that involved in the build process. Yes they manage to get everything scheduled and get the plans out to all the subs but I have noticed a lot are not present when they should be to get a job started. I remember on my pool for gunite the PB didn't actually show up until I was complaining that things weren't right. I am totally convinced now unless a PB has a really good reputation from people who are anal like me then I would rather build the darn pool myself. Especially after going through the process already.

Thanks, Casey! It still surprises me to see that in my backyard! I think it's because I have been at work so much that it's been dark when I'm at home and I can't see it everyday. So, though it's been there almost a week, I haven't seen it enough to be used to it yet.

Hi needsajet! I addressed the need to clean the brick and he is all over it! We discussed sheeting during the gunite spray and his answers were more than satisfactory.
I think it's going to turn out awesome, too!! I STILL can't believe it's happening!

So far, he seems to be really on top of everything. I'm pretty anal and controlling about things like this. He didn't want to do the rebar without me here to approve it.

I completely forgot that he COULDNT be here right at 7 because his wife worked last night and doesn't get home to take over with the kids until 8 or a little after.
Once he got here, he, the head rebar guy and I confirmed everything. He told me that these guys (like all their crews) have worked with them for years and with the plans (they had the updated ones) and talking to me to get my preferences along with trusting his guy to suggest improvements or things we hadn't thought of (i.e. doing a higher corner bench for me and adding the corner steps into the bubbler shelf), he wasn't worried about not being able to be here right at 7.
We chatted for a bit, he addressed the grading/drainage/height issue behind the spa at the back corner and how it's going to be resolved ( to be determined when grading for the deck and the deck is drawn out), I reiterated the Mon-Thursday work days, stressing my husband's sleep and honoring what I told the nursing home about the traffic issue. I was very clear.
I really think he WANTS to make sure this goes super well since I work with his wife. He made sure to tell the head rebar guy that I work with her.
Stub plumbing is next. Then gunite.
I. CAN. NOT. WAIT.


Thanks for your interest everyone! I love that you share my excitement, as I share your excitement and enjoy the details of your builds. It's very like chatting about our kids, their accomplishments, school pictures as they grow, their struggles and everything in between.

Ha, my youngest kid will be three this year. They do grow up fast. I hope he continues to age well. He is kind of lazy though, just sitting there and not doing much of anything except keeping his circulatory system running. He's doesn't mind the rain or sun, but I prefer to spend time with him when its sunny. He likes it when I keep him cleaned up and he behaves really well when we have company. Mine is cold-blooded at heart but does warm up nicely for part of the year. I understand yours will be warm-blooded, which will be very nice. Congratulations on your evolving little (big) one.

Your youngest is beautiful and when you look that good, being lazy is perfectly acceptable. I only WISH mine would be fully warm-blooded. Mine is growing an appendage which requires warmth, although since it shares a circulatory system with the rest of the body, I suspect there may be some cross-over, similar to our own circulatory system with oxygenated blood/deoxygenated blood/heart/lungs and the travel through the body.

It's yet to be determined if we are expecting a boy or a girl ;)
 
Denise, I would call them and find out what the holdup is. I'm wondering if they forgot to mail them.

We have ordered tile, coping and finally matched the pavers, so all are on order. They need to come out and regrade and remove some dirt before they can start. Hopefully this week. The hold up was trying to match the existing pavers.
