Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

With my build, the PB said he would have to ask the plaster company what they wanted: should the PB have a tile guy put the step or trim tiles down or have the plaster people put those things on.

I asked the plaster clean up crew since, I never heard back on that from the PB. The guy today said that the plaster crew would want to put those on so that they could make sure the pebble plaster is the right height around all the do-dads (my term, not his).

That doesn't mean that is how it works in your area. I would call the plaster company and ask them. Then talk to the substitute superintendent PB. You should be able to have the option! I don't know if they will charge extra or not. I'm not even sure about our guys. I may be in for a surprise. But I've been telling our PB about what I've bought, and he's never mentioned an up-charge.

So..... what are you thinking of adding to the steps and bench?????
Suz.

Suz, I just want something to mark the steps and bench. It would be great if I had some glass tiles like what is in the diamond of my waterfall. But I do not have any. At this point all I have are the same tiles that go around the waterline of my pool. I'm not sure if a few of those could be placed strategically or not. I don't want anything slippery. I will ask the substitute tomorrow. I was thinking maybe 4-5 tiles on each step several inches apart. I will find out what is possible and go from there.
Thanks for your help. I cannot wait to see your finished pool! It's just so exciting that you are finally getting plaster!

Who knew??? The setting of simple 2x2 tiles would generate so much interest! I thought maybe one or two of you might have an interest and want to share an opinion. You know, not really a big deal. I already knew which way I was going to go, but I thought, "Hmmmm, better poll my buddies!" (again Nick and I disagreed - never argumentative, always very generous with each other in our difference of opinions.... "Oh, it's ok, we'll do it your way. No, no, we'll do it your way")

I woke up to practically a landslide with many votes! If I didn't read too quickly, only 3 of us (notice the word 'us') voted for the diamond, set on point style. Ernie, Amanda, and me.

Once again, you guys have helped me look at the step tiles in a different way. Unless there's a last minute rally, the step tiles will be set on the square.

Most of ya'll know I don't have little ones around here, but I do have 2 big 'uns. (well one is usually in Oregon, but he says he's coming down for a visit in August --Wheeeeeeeeeee!). So those of us who have big ones around understand - well some of you do..... I have to think of their safety when they have had, well....., had maybe a few too many adult beverages. That's why I want to make sure there are step tiles on the bench. I don't want them to try jumping straight down from the bump-out bench. Hopefully this will help. And yes, the step tiles also help alert little ones and befuddled old ones, too.

Thanks everyone for your interest - ya'll really are so kind and so awesome. And to Ernie, Amanda, (and me), come on down for a visit, and I'll mix up some of my special Texas Tea just for the 3 of us!!! The others can revel in knowing their choice sits squarely on the bench!!!

I missed the vote...I was just hoping for plaster today!

I vote Diamond as well Suz.

Sorry, Ricky! Texas Tea for you, too! And you really just might make it, since we're nearest neighbors! Well, Appelbe might be a little closer....

Nooooooo, no one is here, yet. I did not receive a call last night about plaster. I do think I will get a call before that crew comes. I guess it was just wishful thinking that they might surprise me this morning. Sorry, if I got anyone else's hopes up.

Sincerely though, I won't mind if the plaster isn't put in for a few days. Our forecast is sunny, sunny, sunny - so that's not a concern. And with all the stone dust that's sure to happen today and maybe tomorrow, I'd hate for all that dust to get into the pretty new water (well, maybe not so pretty at first).

Don't misunderstand! I won't be at all disappointed if the plaster crew shows up today!!!! We'll deal with the stone dust.

I will be disappointed if the decking crew doesn't show today. They said they would be here, but I have enough experience to know that doesn't mean a darn thing. But they usually don't come around until about 10, so there's still time. And besides.... today is Pizza Day for their lunch (Monday specials at Papa Johns). So, surely that will bring them here. They are sooooo close to being finished. One last section behind the bump-out bench, fill in a few empty patches, and then set the perimeter stones in mortar.

Last week was such a busy week for my son and me. Appointments, sale shopping at Half Price Books (a different coupon each day), and a million errands. I'm so looking forward to being home and focusing on the pool and house chores. And..... I have to get ready for water chemistry!!!

Thanks for everything!
Suz.

It's hard but both are nice. Option 1 is what I would do to go with the overall pool design.

So just getting back with you on answers from your last post to me.
I spoke with Kelly last night and he told me Alex (his tile sub) installs the toe markers in the pool and he told me to leave them out for him to install. MMG comes back and plasters around them, cleans around them etc.
This is what I was told so I'm just passing along the info Suzy.
Will see what happens in the next few days. :)

Paris: Thanks so much for getting back to me. That's important information! I will call Kelly and ask him how my pool's trim tiles will be handled. Bless his heart, he's told me both ways. I'd hate to tell the plaster crew to leave if they won't install the toe markers! They might not ever come back!!! I guess it all depends on which plaster crew comes out.

Suzy.

I understand and if he tells you different please text me.
I have 80+ linear ft of those beach shells to install on the tan shelf, all steps, jacuzzi and pool seats.
So I was wanting to make sure that I was prepared for this installation. :)

Kim: This photo is for you. When I was able to get into the pool yesterday, I took a better shot of our little cutie. It is a sweet crooked tile - and smaller too! You and I may be the only ones who appreciate a small flaw like this! The tile guy did great, since this is the only boo-boo I've seen on the glass tile. And because the pool was still filled with green, gross water, he did much of it hanging over working upside down!

Hugs! Suz.
