Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

If I were having the plaster done today, it would be Blue Granite. I loved it on Ozdiver's pool. Now that the glass tile is in, I think it will go the best. I'd still like to see French Grey or Slate blue since they have fewer black speckles.

Yes, PebbleTec the company but will use their Sheen level or line of finish. Our PB said we could use Wet Edge (I haven't asked about any other makes). But he has a strong relationship with Pebble Tec. And the company here that installs it I've heard is outstanding.

From what I've read, when it comes to the aggregate or pebble finishes (maybe plaster, too), quality depends on the applicators. Take care. Suz.

I am also doing Pebble Sheen - I think I am still going with Blue Granite. Hoping Modern Method will be able to work us in when the time gets here! I REALLY want them to do the install. Have you decided on a color - for SURE?

Actually... It is shocking! I posted this quote yesterday - about 27 hours ago, and I haven't changed my mind yet!! I never have found the color where I say, "That's it!" I'm jealous of those who say they are sure when they see it.

I keep remembering what Pooldv said - he promised I wouldn't hate Blue Granite and might even love it. My PB said something similar. Whenever a customer leaves the choice up to him, he puts in Blue Granite, and they're always happy.

I thought our PB said that MMG is the only one who does Pebble Tec installs. Or maybe he meant they are the only company he will use. I asked him to be sure I would have MMG for the Sheen, since I didn't get them for the gunite. I don't think he was happy with the work of the gunite company I had. Did your PB tell you it could be another company? Suz.

I took it as MMG was the only one my PB would use - but now that you mention it - I could have totally taken it wrong!

I question my choice constantly - but I keep going back to Blue Granite. So I THINK that is the color. My PB said something similar - that it is the most popular and he hasn't ever had anyone put it in and regret it - whereas some of the others (specifically those with green tints) - he said people can have regrets.

I'm very disappointed in you both. Really. Especially Suz. :smurf:

My mistake.... I misunderstood your statement (I was confused - you were not confusing). Now I realize you just meant that you hope MM will fit you in as soon as possible. I thought.... well, never mind.

Bmore Quote: "I'm very disappointed in you both. Really. Especially Suz." End Quote
(seriously, how do you put 2 different quotes in one reply???? - something else I have to go figure out how to do).

Just for you, Bmore, I'm tempted to get the Smurf Blue, but.... then I might not be happy living with it. And I still haven't seen any photos of their test pools. I did ask my PB's assistant: If I agree to be the first in the area (the guinea pig) to install the Smurf Blue, could I get it for free?? That would almost seal the deal! She laughed and said it was a great question. But probably by now, someone else has already thought of that. And if they hadn't, they have now, right?!!!! :smurf: Suz.

I called the PebbleTec rep out of Dallas - same guy I spoke to a couple of weeks ago. Wow - what a nice man. I asked about cutting me a deal..... He laughed and said great idea, but he knows builders here who have customers ready for the finish now and going with it. Rats - they beat me to it. He said probably MMG (our PebbleTec installers) wouldn't have done that anyway.

He said he knows corporate in Arizona is working on getting pictures from their test pools posted on their website. Also, he had a good idea: call my PB who has one sample of Blue Surf and take the sample to an Aqua Blue pool. He's in Austin now where one pool company has a display pool with Aqua. He did that and said he thought it would give a fair idea of how Blue Surf is different from Aqua Blue.

He said the new color may have more black speckles than the Aqua. The Blue Surf is a deeper blue and true-er blue than the Aqua. It is no darker than Blue Granite but with less gray, so the Blue Surf has more of a blue color on steps and sun shelfs, etc.

I told him about people on this forum "pickin' on me" about the Blue Smurf. I told him I had responded that I wan going to get Blue Smurf just to spite all those people. He laughed and said he could see what they meant, but it's a dry sample. This nice man said that if I go with it, he will come see it when he comes to Houston. He wants lots of pictures from different pools and settings. Isn't it great to talk to people so nice and wanting to help?! I'll keep ya'll posted. Suz.

Y'all can come see my pool when ever you want. I ain't skeered of nunyas.

Suz, you have to choose!! :D

I swear you are over thinking the speckles. Go with the overall base color for what water color you want. The less Blue or Grey in the base, the more the natural Blue refracted color will show.

Are you getting impatient with me????? My son sure is! I don't even mention things about the pool to him anymore. LOL!!! Until our PB tells me the plaster trucks are coming the next day, I can change my mind all I want!!

Ok, now about the speckles. I know I would see a snake or mouse no matter the speckles. But I don't think I would see a spider on the wall. Last summer I swam with lots of spiders, but I could see them right near the water line. As long as I know where they are, I don't mind them. Well, I did have one decide to chase me by hopping on the water towards me - those guys can move fast! If the spider has no respect for my boundaries, then I just swoosh them towards the skimmer. Would I be able to see the spiders? Ok, there I've admitted my real problem with the speckles. Call me a Smurf Sissy, but that's the way it is. At my age, it ain't gonna change.

I'm a little confused by your base color information. What color would the base be if it weren't blue or gray? Or did you mean to get one that is a very light blue or gray? I thought I read that the really light colors show stains more and algae (of course I won't have that issue - I hope). So do I want to go very light?

Be careful what you say..... Kim and I are already planning her trip here so we can make surprise visits to the TFP pools in Houston area. I'm sure we could rope Wendy, Amanda, and a few others to join us in skippin' on over Midland way and surprise you and your family!!! You never know........! Suz.

I am in for pool party hopping!!! There are a few up here in Dallas. We could just tour Texas!

I decided I'm going with a lighter color base plaster. I don't think we will see stains with all the pebbles that are there. I'm going with satin matrix Tahitian blue.

ALL RIGHTY then!!! Touring Texas - what fun! I can drive unless we get too many people. We can always caravan! Gee, I'll have to get the car painted Smurf Blue.....

Amanda, you are so great at making your decisions! You haven't even had your dig yet, and you've got your plaster color! Sighhhhh. I'm running over to the Satin Matrix site and look it up. Suz.

Yall just bring it on, give me a days notice...and we are ready! My pool ain't fancy, but it's nice and wet.

What I mean Suz is not to worry about speckles if the base color is what you like. Unless the speckles are extremely dense in number, they won't hide anything you need to see. That said, if the base is really Blue the water is forced to look Blue. It's all personal preference, so that isn't wrong if you like it. I personally prefer to see Blue created by a lighter finish with very little Blue or Grey. That way, it's more like being at a white sandy beach where the natural Blue is shown from the water filtering out all the other rays. Caribbean water looks like it does because the sand is white to off white giving the turquoise or natural Aqua colors. I love our finish/water color, but it has just the slightest amount too much blue and grey in the base color.
