Lautner Edge Pool, Australia - Finally complete!

A few more photos...

Here you can see the way the ply and the form for the pool cover rebate come together

Another one of those things that looked great (ie easy) on paper are all the hidden dish drains that feed the droppers.

Had to sculpt the top of all the droppers to accept the dish drains with a nice tight fit to avoid any overspray into the droppers.

All my perimeter piping is at a 1:100 gradient, so Ive installed all the drains to have a gradient of 1:50 or more. I want the water to clear out of the drains as quickly as possible to avoid any water backing up, but more importantly to keep the drains free of any debris. I still figure Im going to have to make an attachment for my pressure cleaner to be able to get into the final 10mm (3/8") gap, just incase.

Got one of my estimates back, just waiting for another one (which I would prefer to use going on feedback of others).
Either way, looks like it will be shot next week.

A few more pictures before shotcrete.

Sika Greenstreak Waterbar expansion joint.
I doubt there would be many pools on TFP would need to go to the trouble of installing an expansion joint, but I though I would document it anyway as someone might want to know hows its done sooner or later

End profile of the waterbar.

Center section is "blocked out" with ply so it leaves a void the full thickness of the pool sides/base such that each half of the pool is free to move independently of the other.
Im not worried about any movement as the whole pool bears on rock, but I am worried about shrinkage cracking as the concrete cures due to the overall length of the pool

Here you can see how I blocked out the rest of the joint and have it temporarily supported with the 3x6 lamintaed bearer.

My Mrs is pathetic when it comes to getting in a pool, unless its as hot as a spa, so I had to have very small steps going into the pool (just over 5" in height each), so rather than expect the shotcretor to try and cut of the steps and have them somewhat equal, I formed all the steps so all he has to do is fill each step and cut off the shotcrete to level.

You can also see the risers for the infloor cleaning in each step. I still need to adjust the final position of the risers as they are slightly of line and position at the moment.

Shotcrete is booked for this weekend, with the contractor I prefered to do the job.
Will be completed over two days as the pool is so large. The expansion joint also makes for an easy and convenient way of breaking up the pour.

The metal formwork you can see in the photo is a permanent form called bondeck. Its roll formed and acts as a bottom layer of reo (in tension). The reason Ive used it there is that the steps are all suspended above the lower floor beneath them and are some 10 feet off the ground

OK, some pics of the shotcrete

Shot up to the green streak water bar expansion joint

First (and far and away most complicated) section completed

Everything went well. No concrete cave in's and one very relieved owner and builder!
Concrete so far - 29.1 m3 , about 38 cub yards

Yep, can keep posting pictures of the house as it progresses if people are interested.

Bit of a set back this morning. Started stripping formwork and have found more voids up under the formwork than expected.
I always expected to have to patch some parts as the formwork is fairly intricate and a shotcrete nozzle isnt exactly a scalpel, but still a little disappointed.

Will post some pictures later before I start the repairs.

The repairs arent a big deal and as I said, I expected some. Just will end up doing a bit more than planned!
On the up side, at least the guys doing the shotcrete will be able to see what is going on and hopefully rectify the problem on the second half of the pool this week

Thanks!
I've worked in the construction industry for most of my adult life, and am interested in how you do it "down under".
Happy to Charlie, but this build is anything but standard compared to 99% of houses built here!

Second half of the pool now complete and formwork stripped.
No photos as yet, but the second half has come out better than the first, although I will still need to patch some areas.

There is a section about a foot long that is absolutely perfect. Happy days!
Shame about the other 202 feet!

Anyway, Im not overly concerned about it anymore. It is what it is and needs to be done.

More patching underway!

Almost finished the bulk of it and will start to skim coat some of the areas tomorrow, weather permitting.

Will get some photos as well as photos of the prep for the suspended floor slabs

Yeah sorry, been busy forming the suspended concrete slabs for the rest of the house!
Amazing how much time we spent on the pool (~8 weeks!) and how far we have come in the last 2 weeks building other stuff

Will try to download from the camera and post some more pics soon.
