She's Back! And ready for Season 2...

I’m dismantling the 16-footer and really assessing the damage after two full flips**. My horizontal arms are destroyed. The holes where they clip into the Ts are in awful shape. I’m gonna scrap this one. Save some of the best looking pieces as back ups and call it time for a new purchase. Dang it, Indians weather…

Well. Here she goes… 18’x48” of oasis bliss. IMG_1325.jpeg

I am hopeful this one is just as easy to set up as the others. A couple feet bigger but not deeper. And now I’ll have some spare parts around (filter, ladder, etc) if we get really out of hand this season!

Round 2… ready! Go!

She’s up! I can’t believe how much bigger going from 16 to 18’ was. I can’t imagine what I would do if I had gone 20’! 😳😳

I’ll throw some water in to get it weighed down. And then professional fill comes this week!! I could not be more excited!!!
Good choice on the water! You have been through enough! Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Circles are fun. Going 1/8 or 12.5% larger on 16ft gets a little over 25% more surface area.

It won't come into play often with pools, but it could come into play every Friday night at various Pizza places. :ROFLMAO:

Oh dumb question - safe to assume my current sand filter will handle this sized pool? The “kit” came with a cartridge filter (no thanks), so I assume I’m good… but you all know what happens when we assume 😂😂

I dont see it being particularly more limited than it was in the first place. So there is that.

They are awesome when they aren't hot tub sized. But the one that comes in the box should really be on a hot tub.

We're on our 4th Intex... never thought we'd keep buying a "starter" pool. But we started the same way - damage to our original (very affordable) 18-foot inflatable ring (with the ring, it functioned more like a 16'). The first upgrade was only slightly bigger (18-foot metal supports). That one also got damaged before the end of it's functional life. The second upgrade was significantly larger in usable space, but not much more water or annual chemicals (salt, CYA) (12x24). For that one, I also sourced a bigger Intex pump and sand filter. When it wore out, we tried really hard to get a "real" above-ground, but during Covid, none of the local suppliers would answer emails. So... Intex #4 (another 12x24) has been going strong.

We leave the pool up for the winter, draining half, and bringing the equipment inside. Each iteration of pool, we've improved our installation techniques and every year, we try to upgrade some piping or equipment. Going bigger is a good idea - you'll love the 18'! And even if your filter is a bit undersized, it will still work - you just need to backwash a bit more often.

One thing you may like to try - get the Hayward skimmer (we had the regular size on our 18' round) and DIY the install. It keeps the water surface cleaner, and you can use hair nets or skimmer socks to collect the pollen and fluff that will clog your sand prematurely.

I got a little skimmer bucket that I attach near the filter! That thing saved my life last summer with the June Bugs!

Get some water in that thing so she stays put- I assume you can just pump it out when the water truck comes?
Got about 6” in now. I also threw in a jug of last year’s chlorine, plus 2 jugs of this year’s because #rust and I don’t want Joe Dirt Jr. coming back unless he has to. It’s amazing how the rust almost “pillows” in the water but I can’t get it out until the filter kicks on!

Fill truck is coming this week. I have about 6-8” of water in the pool, 3 gallons of chlorine, and the rust has pillowed but I can’t kick on the pump/filter until we’re closer to full. It’ll cycle through Joe Dirt for a day or 2 and then we’ll be TFP Clear 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Which brings up something - Vitamin C to remove rust from the liner? Is that the right thing… I can’t remember!

I keep checking the pavers that I have the legs on - no substantial movement yet! Fingers crossed they stay while we fill!
