Good afternoon, I am beginning my second season of pool ownership and have followed TFP guidelines within a few months of the completion of the build. I replaced the original Nature 2 cartridge at the 6 month mark so I could remove the metal balls in this original one. My question is, does this look safe enough to put back in?
I used a hack saw to cut the device enough to remove the balls, had to glue the bottom ring back on because it split apart when I forced it open. My concern is that I don’t want anything breaking off and getting into the plumbing causing bigger issues.
I’ve read just about every post on this site about the use of these cartridges and I don’t think it is worth it! The unit is a combo piece of equipment with the chlorinator, I very rarely use tricolor tablets (only on vacation or when I need to bring my CYA up a little). I use 10% liquid chlorine and test with my Taylor K-2006C kit. Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated!

You are asking about the Jandy Nature2 Fusion. If you don't use the chlorinator side, then you should remove the entire unit and put in a straight pipe.

Or better yet, install a SWG in its place.

You said that, not the OP. Nature 2 Fusion Soft is an SWG.
Like to know what the OP has...
I do want to keep the Jandy Nature 2 because it is useful when away from home for a few days.
It's not the SWG version.

He/she wants to keep the tablet chlorinator because it is useful.

This is the set up. I need to look into the different models I suppose, I didn’t know Jandy Nature 2 had a salt water option!
Fusion Soft...

It can be a drop in replacement to install a SWG and don't use the mineral cartridge

Do you have Aqualink?

Yes to the Aqualink.
I am just as happy to put the old empty cartridge back in for now and that would solve the issue.
Please remember that, as much as everyone here wants to help, you can't be advised to re-install a part that you have admittedly damaged. No one really knows what will happen.
I would never re-install a broken/damaged part to a customer's pool because I would then be liable for any damage that occurred that I couldn't even predict. Since you only rely on that system when you are away, it is best to get an SWG. It is safer to get another cartridge or better at the least, to cut it out, install a straight pipe, use a floating tablet dispenser.
