Any specific pump you would recommend? I was told by another pro that the old compool system can't really accomodate 2 speed motors, it's just on an off, but maybe they were mistaken. Thanks for the reply!
I believe you said you now have a two-speed pump. If so, does the system change the speeds for you?
A Compool system required a two-speed relay (special type) for that and if it does change speeds now, it obviously
can handle a two-speed pump.
Those motors are getting harder to find in a horsepower you may want, but are out there.
Like your pro, because they are not legally made in/for this country anymore (most motors of that type are made in China anyway), I can't get them through any distributors anymore. So it may be that he is trying to avoid installing a motor he didn't supply, which is reasonable. Retailers can sell old stock until it is gone, then they can't get them anymore either.
You can use a Nidec Neptune variable-speed motor on the Sta-Rite pump using relay inputs from your Compool to control the speeds you would set in the motor's on-board control. It is a good option if you want a VSP for much less than a complete pump. Which pump/horsepower do you have now? Even old Sta-Rite pumps are still very good pumps.
You can use any of the newer VSP that allow relay control, like the Hayward TriStarW3SP3206VSP, the Jacuzzi JVS270S (Hayward pump in a Jacuzzi box for much less) or the Waterway PD270. Again, relay inputs from the Compool would allow the pump's speeds that you set in the pump to be selected.
