Assuming your builder only sells Hayward...

Personally, I'd ask a Hayward SwimClear 525 for the filter (Don't go smaller than the 425). It is cartridge. You likely will not have to clean it but once a year. Make sure he plumbs a diverter after the pump, before the filter, to facilitate lowering the water level if needed.

The 900 is ok, but I'd recommend the Hayward Tristar VS 950. It will require 230v service, but will save you money in the long run with lower electrical usage.

There are other good options, outside of Hayward. Does builder only use Hayward?

Yes, my builder is an exclusive Hayward dealer and after doing much research, I'm 100% OK with that.

I upgraded to a 500# 30" sand filter and stayed with the Tristar VS-900 because according to Hayward, the 900 is considerably more efficient than the 950.

The 900 has a Weighted Energy Factor of 12.9 at 240 volts, whereas the 950 WEF is 10.1. (See attachments) In my application the 950 would be overkill.

WEF is NOT indicative of pump efficiency despite what the industry will say. It penalizes larger HP VS pumps even though they may rarely be operated at higher speeds. WEF tends to lead the pool owner towards smaller HP VS pumps which are usually less efficiency and are louder in operation.

Weighted Energy Factor (WEF) standardizes pump efficiency the same way MPG standardized motor vehicles. WEF measures the gallons of water pumped per kWh of energy use. The higher the WEF score, the more gallons of water pumped per kWh. So a pump with a WEF score of 7.356 means the pump can move 7,356 gallons of water while using 1 kWh of energy.

WEF = Gallons Pumped / 1,000 Watts Used

The WEF weighted score is:

• 80% at low speed
• 20% at high speed

WEF is required to be published on the pump rating label for pumps manufactured after July 19, 2021

Use WEF to compare energy efficiency of pumps. WEF is only one factor to consider in pump selection. Pumps need to be sized properly for its application which brings us to HHP.

The music was great! I enjoyed watching the crews work. Fortunately, it was close to 80 degrees when the liner went in and it it is flawless. I began filling the pool immediately, and they ran two shop vacs pulling air from around the liner overnight until the next day when the trim for the skimmers, returns and lights were installed. Overall, I'm very pleased with Empire Pools. Final grade was supposed to be Monday, but it 🌧 rained, so hopefully it'll dry out enough to finish tomorrow.

Yes, they have some crew. Many guys doing different things. They really work well together. I wish my liner went in with 80 temps, it was only about 60. they are assuring me it will be fixed, which I believe they will. Enjoy you new paradise!!! The hard part is over, almost time to start enjoying it. BTW, I see central GA for you, I am shocked they went that far, as I am south of ATL, and I think their business is NW of ATL.
