Hello all and happy new year! Our Hayward onCom system lost power over the holidays and I suspect the main board is friend. Pool repair co. Said it may be better and cheaper to replace entire system to a Petair automation system rather then replace the old board, which is now discontinued.

Makes sense to me if Hayward is putting a fork in the system but want y’all’s thoughts.

We would want to maintain remote control of everything (either through a remote or phone app), to run spa/pool, blower, lights, heater etc.

Can this be done if everything else is different brands (Hayward pump, heater, different valves etc).

Any recommendations on automation replacement system. I’ve not been impressed with Haywards reliability over the years. Thanks in advance for thoughts and help.

What model Hayward pump do you have?

No SWG?

What model pool lights?

Pentair IntelliCenter may work for you. Or get the Hayward OmniPL.

Hayward pool pump. Prostar 2HP super pump single speed.

No SWG

Hayward pool lights although I’ve changed bulbs to after market LEDs from Amazon.

Hayward heater, and mix of Hayward and Kandy valves. Not sure what the blower is.

The repair co mentioned pentair intellecenter and said it would be cheaper but looks like the system is quite a bit more then replacing the old Hayward board.

Hayward has an OmniPL Retrofit kit for the eCommand.

Pentair has the IntelliCenter Lite that is competitive with the OmniPL

I like my IntelliCenter but it is more than you need unless you want your upgrade your equipment to Pentair over time.

The OmniPL Retrofit is all you need to get a modern system.

Thank you for the help! Yes I’m contemplating now upgrading to Pentair variable speed

If you want to move into the Pentair ecosystem then get the IntelliCenter Lite.

The E Command (first made by Goldline) and On Command are different systems. The OmniPL Retrofit will fit the E Command/Aqua Logic/Pro Logic boxes, but not the much smaller On Command.

Hey everyone, need help please. Have to decide tomorrow AM to install parts before freeze hits this weekend.

My old Hayward on com system main motherboard fried itself (again). Rather then replace old outdated tech (and no option to upgrade to Omni) think I’ve decided to replace with Jandy.

Repair man suggests Jandy over pentair intellicenter lite (better product and warranty). I’m confused/worried he’s trying to sell me the PDA system with the iaqualink 3.0 upgrade (he said no remote included) instead of the RS system. I’ve read on TFP that the PDA is not good. I like the idea of controlling everything by app instead of clunky old school remote, but don’t want to pay for the old clunky remote system and just the WiFi add on, as it sounds like multiple other advantages would be lost with a PDA system over a RS system. Thoughts please?

From what I can read my Hayward heater and pump (single speed) will work just fine with Jandy controls but one thread said color LED lights won’t if they are off brand? I replaced the incandescent bulbs with led bulbs years ago from amazon, and they have been awesome thus far.

TIA!!

Plus it looks like there are many other model numbers and options and versions of the system online (likely older versions and models). Confusing. Just don’t want to get ripped off with an outdated system like I’ve already got…….

If you have all Hayward equipment get the Hayward Omni Hub or Omni PL.

I ripped out my Jandy Aqualink and installed an IntelliCenter. I don’t recommend the Aqualink for new installations unless you have all Jandy equipment.

If you must get an Aqualink then get the RS system and not the PDA.

Find a new repairman if he can’t install a Hayward Omni Hub.

thx! Someone mentioned on TFP last week that I can’t upgrade to the Omni PL with current ONCOM system………. Trying to read up on that now.

Going to an OmniPL or Omni Hub is the same replacement of the ONCOM as an Aqualink or IntelliCenter Lite. You are going to rip out the ONCOM and install whatever.

Oh I understand now. I though you were referring to the retrofit not the entire system replacement. To be honest I’ve kinda had it with Hayward. I’ve replaced more circuit boards than I can count. Service is terrible. I’ve had to replace almost everything with a Hayward sticker on it already, minus the heater.

If you hate Hayward you will hate Jandy more.

Omni systems and IntelliCenter can update their firmware OTA, have color touch displays on the panel so they can be fully controlled by the panel, and have built in networking. Jandy Aqualink does not have those basic modern features.

Pentair equipment can cost more than Jandy or Hayward. Some of us think it is worthy it.
