Default speed for freeze protect is 3450 rpm. I am assuming I can change it, and assuming I can....should I? Sure would like to bump it wat down to like 1200 rpm. I assume we just need water movement, not blistering fast water movement. Anyone else bump their freeze protect speed down?

Katy,

The water just needs to be moving.. I run my system at 1200 RPM...

Thanks,

Jim R.
Good deal, thanks. Pump is 6 feet from my head when I lay in bed :)

I assume every time it turns on for freeze protect and toggles between spa and pool, it will prime for the duration and at the speed I have it set for for normal operations right....

You can set the priming speed and the freeze protect speed.

Priming does not need to be super high if the system stays primed.

If the system stays primed, you can turn off priming.

The system will only prime when turning on. If its already on and just switching between pool and spa mode, there should not be any priming.

I run my pump 24/7 so it really only primes when I turn it off every few weeks/months to empty the strainer or backwash. I bet I switch between pool and spa mode 1,000 times in a winter season.

OK, so I changed the speed for freeze protect....nice and quiet, except:

  • Looks like you cannot change the freeze protect speed for the spa. And since I have my spa run at 3450 rpm in normal operation, that is the operation at which it runs on freeze protect. I presume these are correct assumptions, if I'm wrong please let me know :)
  • I have priming still set to YES for the default of 3 min, and of course, priming is on max rpm.
Couple questions if I may:

  • I never lose prime; there is always water in the pump filter basket up to the clear lid. Do I really need priming? I think the answer is likely no.
  • Is there a way to set the freeze protect speed for the spa? When I go the screen for the spa freeze protect speed, the percent slider thing is "greyed out". I assume that since only 1 speed can be set for the spa, that this is the only "available" speed to run while on freeze protect. I suppose I go into config and set my spa speed to 1200 rpm, then then the 10 times per year when freeze protect is running it wil run at 1200 rpm....but then I would have to manually change my spa speed when I actually USE the spa, right? Any workarounds for this?

Can you just adjust the spa speed for now? When I'm using my spa I will have it run at 2,800 but if the spa will be running often due to freeze protection I'll bump down the spa and pool speeds to save a bit of $. I have pentair equipment and its easy to do from my phone.
