Automate Pentair mastertemp 400 without pentair intellicenter

Hi,

I have a Pentair mastertemp 400 and I see RS-485 port on the board. Is it possible to control the heater without pentair automation system?

There is this project: GitHub - tagyoureit/nodejs-poolController: An application to control pool equipment from various manufacturers.

it refers to a rs-485 to wifi converter which I have now. What I want from heater is:

1. enable-disable heater (i know it is possible with fireman switch)
2. read current pool temp
3. set temp

it looks excessive to pay $2000+ for pentair automation just for these. my pump connects to the app and my other option is only achieved 1 with the relay I installed on the pump but want to see if I can use RS-485 without paying $2000+ for an automation system

The Polaris cleaner pump power can be wired through the 16A relay on the IO board.

The fireman’s switch can be connected to the 5A relay to turn the heater on/off. You will not be able to remotely control the heater temperature setting.

how can I use 5A relay to turn heater on/off? I know it is strightforward for most, but is there a simple guide?

Run the 2-wire Fireman's switch through the 5A relay. The Pentair APP will let you turn the relay on and off and cycle the heater.
