I finally got this taylor kit after waiting weeks. But I don't see a bottle labeled r0001 I also don't see the color chart to get my readings from. Am I completely missing something here?

Ignore the instructions for the DPD/Reagent #1.

You will use the instructions on the right of the yellow panel (FAS-DPD) for FC testing.

There is no "color chart." These are all color changing tests, where you are looking for change in the color, not matching colors.

The only matching is pH, and the colors are on the comparator...

Those instructions are for both the k-2005 and k-2006 kits. They are identical except the k-2005 comes with a DPD chlorine test and the k-2006 comes with an FAS-DPD chlorine test. Note the "OR" line between the two chlorine tests.

Use the instructions for the FAS-DPD test and ignore the DPD one.

It doesn’t come with a mixing tube/cylinder. I would seriously consider the speedstir smartstir. It makes testing so much easier.

So I took the advice here. I took the chlorine tabs out of my spa. Here are my first readings from the Taylor test. I know you all said not to use the chlorine tabs. So now I'm looking for advice to get my water straightened out. Thanks!

How do you intend to chlorinate your spa?

If your spa is plaster your CH should be at least 250-300 ppm.

Why is CYA in your pool 0?

You need to drain and replace some water in your spa to get the CYA down.

I don't know how I plan on chlorinating. In a previous post someone asked if I had the chlorine tabs. I replied yes and they told me to throw them out because they would ruin the new heater I installed. It's been colder in AZ so I'm sure the SPA is completely off because the water has just been sitting with no chemicals in it. I'm looking for advice on this.

The pool and spa are pebbletec. What product should I use to get the CH to this level?

I have no idea why the CYA in my pool is 0. I installed a salt system a few months ago. It's been clear so I've just been letting it run. I'm more so just looking for advice to try to get a baseline of what I should be adding to the pool and spa to keep them in the best condition.

The SPA is 500 gallons. How much of it should I drain? Then what baseline of chemicals should I start adding and maintaining?

You need to keep chlorine in your spa and pool at all times. You should not have been told to remove the tablets without figuring out what you will substitute.

Pour some liquid chlorine into the spa and follow the FC/CYA chart at ....

You using PoolMath?

Long term Install a SWG to chlorinate your pool. Probably another Hayward Aquarite. I am not sure if your OmniLogic can control two cells with 2 bodies of water. It may be able to do so.

Go into a Pool Store and buy calcium increaser.

Or you can see if you can find calcium chloride ice melt in AZ.

You should put in at least 60 ppm of stabilizer/CYA using the sock method in the pool.

The SPA is 500 gallons. How much of it should I drain? Then what baseline of chemicals should I start adding and maintaining?

What test kit are you using?

Are you sure your CYA is 100?

For CYA > 90ppm, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:
  1. Fill the mixing bottle to the lower mark (15 ml line) with pool water.
  2. Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark (30 ml line) with tap water.
  3. Shake briefly to mix.
  4. Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle, so it is again filled to the lower mark (15 ml line).
  5. Continue the test normally from adding R-0013, but multiply the final result by two.

If you need to dilute the pool water further then apply these ratios:[8]

Pool waterTap or distilled waterMultiply result by
112
123
145

Note that when doing a diluted test not only do you multiply the range of the test you multiply the error rate of the test, so results are a ballpark - not an absolute.

See CYA Testing for tips in how to read the test results.

Is this ok for the liquid chlorine?
Didn't know there was a tracker. I will download pool math. Thanks!

"I am not sure if your OmniLogic can control two cells with 2 bodies of water"
It will not. I'm trying to explore some ideas on how to combine these two bodies of water into one. I need to figure out how to remove some of these fake rocks to create spill over. This is my long term goal.

Is this ok for the calcium increaser?

Is this ok for stabilizer?

"Are you sure your CYA is 100?"
This is the Taylor test kit. First time I have used it.
No, I need to redo this test using your method. It was > 100

Yes,

Is this ok for the calcium increaser?

Yes.

Is this ok for stabilizer?

Yes, But do not pour it into the skimmer the way the picture shows.

Solid/granular CYA should be placed in a sock and the sock put in the skimmer basket or suspended in front of a pool return. If suspending near a return jet, ensure the sock cannot rest against the pool surface since the granules are acidic and could potentially discolor the surface. After adding CYA you should leave the pump running for 24 hours and not backwash/clean the filter for a week. After soaking for about 30 minutes, squeezing the sock periodically will help it to dissolve faster. Test and dose chemicals in your pool assuming the amount of CYA added is in the pool according to Poolmath. CYA can be tested the day after it is fully dissolved from the sock.
