What did you do to your pool today?

Pool water level was up again to the edge of the coping due to 3.72" of rain last night. Drained it back to down to mid-skimmer level. All of my chemical levels have dropped a little. Right now I need to increase the salt level. Tested at 2800 ppm and the SWG has a low salt warning. I probably won't adjust anything else until after Friday since we are forecast to get another 3-4" of rain. Depends on where Helene goes.

It seems like Groundhog Day. Doing the same thing over and over. On Saturday, I had to drain water out of the pool again. Twice in one week. Three times in the last 12 days. We got 1.72" of rain on Friday, raising the water level to the top of the skimmers. I added two bags of salt on Thursday. I'll add another bag this week. Calcium is getting a little low. TA and CYA lower that where I usually keep it but is acceptable. Raising the output on the SWG to 40%.

Got the cover on today cuz its getting real leafy here. Got 10 more degrees to go before actual winterizing ensues. I will try to get better figures for what my cell is actually producing during this time.
Now to play the cover pump game for the next month. My newish cover (used 1 winter) is already looking worn so I aim not to leave the pump on it too much lest I pump water through the cover. Ready for hot tub season!

Have we heard from any hurricane-hit TFPers? Is everyone and their families and pets and homes and pools OK?
There have been several flood threads.😢 unfortunately I suspect we’ll be seeing many more as its flooding in multiple states all the way up to Tennessee. Prayers 🙏 for all those affected and in the path of the predicted storms. The devastation is immense this year. I’m in some professional cleaning groups on FB and the clean up posts are steadily rolling in.

You wouldn’t want to be out in the Atlantic heading to the Med. And is that Milton warming up in gulf.

Cleaned the filter, and the pump basket which were still full from Helene. Emptied all the skimmers. Double checked the auto drain. Ran a full set of tests. FC high (good). CYA a little low (not going to deal with it until after the storm). Salt low, SWG light blinking.

Going to HomeDepot later to buy 3-4 bags of salt. I figure I am going to need it.

I brushed today and continuing to allow FC to fall below 10 so I can check the pH. It’s been 4 days with no SWCG run time. Hopefully tomorrow is the day so I can wrap up the close.

I soft closed my pool today (well, Sunday, but I forgot to post). Pulled the steps, turned the heat down to 65, backwashed and put all the 'foo-foo' away. Guys come to winterize it in a week, so I have that long to fine tune my chemistry, although it's pretty close. My FC is a little high, but I'd rather close with it a little hot, than not.

Chemistry is all in shape and will cover this weekend. OCLT passed several times within the last week. Water temp this morning was 64, so close enough. Will take FC to SLAM for the close.

It’s not what I did but what I didn’t do. Set my pump and chlorinator to manual on while I vacuumed and forgot to turn it back to auto. The penny dropped a day or two later when testing. Oops.

Jk 🤪 at least you test frequently so you caught it!

We had similar but opposite. Having an unseasonal warm period at the end of winter. Temperatures were 10oC (~17oF) above average so we turned on the solar heating and were swimming in winter. :) Not so happy for our Australian ski hills though.:(

Ha, ha. I used to obsess about rain and snow fall. Then I got too old to board. Then I started obsessing about the length of our summer/swim season. Then it started getting too hot to keep my garden alive, and water costs rose and multi-year droughts and all, so I'm back to obsessing about rain and snow fall! Whattayagonnado?

I think I’m too old to ski to and to be honest we haven’t been skiing in AU for years. 🇨🇦 or🇺🇸 for us. Finally can kind of afford it but now we’re to old and lazy to do it. Loved Banff and Jasper earlier this year but getting on and off of busses every day is not for me.

Hear ya. Got so I could barely manage half a dozen runs. But even sitting panting in the snow, halfway down a slope, was pretty enjoyable. The scenery and all. I used slopes near Tahoe. Really beautiful. Blah, blah, blah. Truth be told, the real reason I went at all was to hit the casinos' all-you-can eat buffets! We only did the number of runs we did to justify the calories!! The vistas of the Sierra Nevada mountains are amazing, second only to:
