Water clear but algae on the walls

Hi All,

I've been following the SLAM approach during our winter here in Sydney and I'm glad to say that my water is crystal clear. Regardless I still seem to need to brush algae from the walls of my pool on a weekly basis this is despite free chlorine (DPD) at over 10 for the whole week. Also, the CC reading is consistently zero.

Is that normal? Just wondering how the algae can grow in that environment despite the free chlorine levels.

Cheers,

Ben

I did pass it last time I did it.

I had to send the SWG off for service recently and topped up the FC level to 30ppm before sending it off. In the 14 days while I had the chlorinator disconnected, the FC level dropped to 10ppm. We had some very unseasonal hot weather during that period too. CC was zero every time I tested during that period. Wind has been leading to a lot of leaves in the pool over that time too.

What @PoolStored said. You haven't given us the CYA which can be a clue too. If the OCLT comes out good then I'd say being that you've been at 10 FC with 0 CC and it's early spring and windy then most likely pollen.
Stabiliser was tested 27 days ago and was 60 ppm. Is there a forum topic or page that explains what is happening with pollen? I'm curious to understand it.

I had a look at the forums and I have realised that you are suggesting that the green on the walls of the pool is pollen and not algae. I thought the pollen was leading to algae.

It's certainly at a manageable level. I am glad there is an explanation other than algae.

Thanks everyone for your help.

This is only definitive IF you come good on the OCLT but even if it's pollen I'd recommend you keep the FC on the hot side of your target.

Congrats! I have similar challenges with pollen. Keep passing every test but see the same things you do with crystal clear water. Enjoy your pool!
