Just overwhelmed

Looks like my CYA should be between 60-90
You could probably use some but also probably not 90 with the days getting shorter. But also TX so maybe. :ROFLMAO:

Here's the thing though. Never add significant batches of CYA without passing an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. Each 10 CYA raises the slam FC target +4. You'd hate to find out after the fact that algae was sneaking in when it could have been an easier/cheaper slam had you done the overnight test first.

and my CH should be a lot higher.
Test of your fill water and report back. If it's high CH we won't want to add much because it'll rise on its own. If it's low CH, then dose to 300 or 350.

My chlorine actually hasn’t been loosing anything overnight. I got the Clorox brand and pool math show to add about 3 1/2 pound, almost the full bag.

I will test the fill water now. Water from the hose tested 90-100 CH.

More details please ?

You need an official test. Now. Say you verify its 8 FC at 9pm after adding a dose, and it's still 8 FC at 10 am when you get around to checking it the morning, then that would count as a pass.

No need to spike it. You could get in trouble if the gallons are a bit off. Do 2 or 2.5 lbs for about 20 CYA. Road test it and we'll go from there.
Water from the hose tested 90-100 CH.
So add 50 CH to get closer to 300, then monitor to see if it starts rising or not. We can always add more if it stays flat for a month.

*sorry but we're learning how your pool responds too. Better safe than sorry. :)

Guess I can add the cya since that arrived today. CH isn’t here yet.

I was able to run my CH test again today and it is at 200. PH, 7.4. My CA increased arrived. Seems like pool math shows I am very low. Shows my target should be 450.

I didn’t order that much, lol. But should I add what I got? It’s a 4lb bag Clorox and shows it should be added 1/3 at a time, 6 hour breaks.

That's about 36 ppm Calcium. I do those batches in one shot. Much larger doses should be spread out and I think they are making their advice uniform when it doesn't need to be.
Shows my target should be 450.
450 is too high with high CH fill water, but poolmath doesn't know that.

Get the CH around 300 and see if it rises any on its own.

Thanks. So adding the full 4lb bag at once is okay then? Really don’t have a “deep end” as the deepest part is 5ft.

Been using the pool math app but also playing with the Leslie’s app and Pooli app. Both the Leslie’s app and Pooli app say my TA is too low once adjusted for CYA. (If I get my cya to 75) The pool math app doesn’t show that at all. Should I be looking at this adjusted number others are showing? Does the pool math app not look at that as a consideration?

Taylor shows my TA at 80

You should just delete the other apps. 😉 You cannot expect TFP to agree with Leslie’s as they each have fundamentally different goals.

Like finding a way to make your TA seem low, so they can sell you baking soda in a fancy bag at 10X the cost. Ooooops. Too high. Now the Ph is jacked too. Here's $65 of stuff to lower both. Oooooops. Silly us. Too low.

The support and community here is awesome, so I will rely on that. But I did try a few apps to see which was easier to use. As mentioned the Leslie’s and Pooli app use some combination to calculate the TA. On the pool I app you can actually toggle this on/off. Was sure if I missed that in the Pool Math app.

I will say, my local Leslie’s hasn’t tried to sell or push anything on me, and so far, their water tests have been nearly identical to my Taylor test. CH was off by 20 and CYA maybe by 10. That might vary by location, but this one hasn’t been bad.

We don't care about adjusted TA. Ignore it. Use your own test results and pool math. Any adjustments needed when it comes to calculating chemical additions is handled by Poolmath.

Here is the accuracy of the Leslie's test vs. Taylor. Trust your Taylor.

Thanks. Yeah, wasn’t sure if I was missing something in the pool math app with the adjusted TA, since other apps (more than one) accounted and noted that.

I do trust the Taylor tests. I just mentioned that so far, my local store has been pretty spot on for most of them. Makes it nice, in a pinch, like how I ran out of my chlorine test. They have always been just about exact on my Taylor test on that and PH as well.

I have seen, personally, and via TFP, the test results be more off than the accuracy listed above (post #56 above). (Even to the extent, with clean vials, and understanding test errors ( Water Testing Errors - Further Reading ) a pool store pH test being 8.0 and 7.4 with Taylor test...

Trust your Taylor or TFTestkits.net test kit.

Literally rinse ?
No. Just fill to the next line and keep repeating the fill and peek.

Then you can pour back and forth and run the test as many times as you need to get a couple in a row that agree. 2 out of 3 becomes best of 5....... then 7. :ROFLMAO:
