Serviced a Omni PL yesterday with a "nothing working" problem. Circuit breaker all had power so next I checked all the fuses on the board and non were bad. Traced the main power plug of the board and it was wired to the gfci outlet on the side of the panel where the pool cover pump plugs in. The Eaton gfci outlet was defective and not resetable so everything boardwise was dead. I want to isolate the board power to have its own cb so we don't go down this road again if something should cause the gfci outlet to trip such as the extention cords used for the cover pump which is common occurrence in many of the pools I service. Here's the main question: Do I need a gfci cb for the board or can it be the regular non gfci cb. TIA, Allan.

As it is outdoors, in a metal box, and high-voltage, a GFCB is the best option and likely code required.
The Omni PL manual doesn't state the need for anything other than a 120V circuit (only 120V), but does state that codes, like NEC, CEC, local, should be checked.
Other manufacturers have stated that their panels should have GFCI protection.

The OmniPL does not need to be powered by a GFCI breaker. Neither does Pentair automation panels. Neither does Jandy Aqualink.

All the panels just have 120/240V to a transformer and everything after is low voltage for the automation.

Thanks, So I can then use a separate cb to power the board less the gfci option?
Yes, I use a dedicated 120v CB in my systems so that problems with other equipment does not take the automation down.
