I’ve been using the Taylor K-2006 kit over the past year and have gotten pretty comfortable with it.

It was about time to need a refill on all of the supplies and decided to go with a TF-Pro instead. I wanted to support the people in this community and thought long-term it might be a more economical option.

Everything arrived great.

The one difficulty I’m having is reading the yellow chlorine level. In the K-2006 kit, the red chlorine level is easy to read. But in the TF-Pro, the yellows between 2-5 are almost indistinguishable to me.

Am I doing something wrong? I’m trying to hold it up against a white backdrop in good lighting.

The first time I used it, I checked it against my old kit and I was off by like 3ppm. The old kit read 2ppm and the new yellow kit looked like 5ppm.

Maybe the variation doesn’t matter as much and you just want it to be in the yellow somewhere?

Thanks for any insight from those who regularly use this kit.

Chris

The yellow OTO test isnt necessary. Use FAS-DPD like

One of the original owners of the forum thought he could do it better than Taylor, with Taylor's own drops, so he did. Everything is proportioned how we do things, for the same cost, instead if throwing out some of the expired kit while running out of the rest early. It's a slam dunk.

But the 2 are two entirely different companies. The forum is a charity while TFtestkits is a private business. The daughter and son in law now own it, and are good people with a great product. You can still feel good about supporting a small business that stands behind their product. But it's its own thing. :)

P.S. Great job on the TFpro. Better proportions, a stirrer and a nicer case, for the same price as the Taylor kit with no stirrer and wrong proportions.

Use the R0870 powder, R0871 Reagent and reagent #3 for FC and CC tests.

Do you use the FAS-DPD test for your daily test? I figured the quick yellow test was daily, since it’s fewer steps, and the longer test was weekly. @PoolStored

Thank you! I’ve received so much value here and I’m very thankful. I pay for PoolMath also. Do you use the TFPro @Newdude ?

Yes. I have never used OTO (yellow). With the FAS-DPD, you can use 10m pool sample and each drop is .5FC, or you can use 5mL pool sample, and each drop is 1FC.

As long as you follow this, (see link), and keep your FC in range, you are good. Link-->FC/CYA Levels

I had the TF100 and upgraded to the pro after moving and building again. While the TF100 was entirely functional, I appreciate the organization of the pro, each and every time I open it. The Tf100 had me hunting and picking every time and then fumbling to find homes for the bottles/vials again after.

I also just purchased the TF100 Pro (from TF Testkits), and although I am a total newbie at all of this, I too, appreciate the organization of the kit and the convenient layout of the reagents. I have not tried the yellow chlorine test, only the drop (since my FC is extremely high) but can understand how you may not be able to tell the difference between readings. I have the same issue on the pH side, deciphering a reading of 7.5-7.8 :ROFLMAO:

It's super easy. Super DUPER easy even.

6.8= time to dose
7.0 = your choice if you dose
7.2= not time to dose
7.4= not time to dose
7.5 = not time to dose
7.6= not time to dose
7.8= not time to dose
8.0= your choice if you dose
8.2 time to dose.

Really, if it ain't orange or purple...... move along there's nothing to see here. 😁

I like that! That should be in the instructions for "Helpful Hints or Pro Tips"

I'm only agonizing over that particular test reading because I am trying to get my TA down to the 70 range and it started from the 130 range. I'm currently at 110. So I keep waiting for it to hit 7.5-7.8 and then dose with Acid back down to the 7. But it never seems to go below 7.2 :D

If you dose early, whether or not you're actively trying to lower the TA, your only penance is that next time comes earlier too. If you dose late, ph is a long term concern and I assure you the price of beer remains unchanged. And trust me. If you go jacking the price of beer, you and me are having words. :ROFLMAO:

It seems the yellow OTO test is quite a bit quicker. Do you do the more extensive test for your daily testing or do you just test less often? @Bperry
Its been 4 years since I used that test. Ive gotten to know my pool enough that i dont need to test every day anymore.
