SLAM Issue

Re: waterline issue
- Wiping off is not the right phrase. It needs scrubbing. About a month ago I scrubbed about 15 feet of it. I’ve attached picture. The second picture is what I feel it looks like without the discoloration (this side of the pool somehow doesn’t seem to have it as bad.)

Re: OCLT
- Tested last night at 1115p, got a 16 FC reading. At 530a, was 15.5 verified 3 times. So that’s at least promising.
-However, see pics. That sludge is back, and today it’s back to its regular color (brown/yellow). Yesterday, it was clearly more grey (post cal hypo treatment.)

Attempted to vac it to a skimmer sock. Honestly at this point I’ve no idea if the sock is catching it. Filter pressure does seem to be inching up. I’m at 21, I probably need to backwash around 22.5. (18 is where it sits mainly.)

I did check CYA again. It’s below 30 but not by much. I am adding a small amount of stabilizer to get it to 30 (via skimmer sock). Will run it today as if 30 is my number, despite saying yesterday would treat as 40. It’s clearly below 30.

(Also, is it normal for reagents on Cya to turn purple ish?)

I have ordered a Taylor phosphate test. Have not decided but may treat with PQ60 if I get an insane #. I just feel the need to know that aspect.

Pool remains at slam level - my kids probably will swim today, so may lower it some but staying above mustard minimum.

What is PQ60?

Polyquat 60 - main school of thought is to only use it for closing the pool but read where some use it in certain situations. I’m on the fence about it.

PQ60 has no effect on phosphates.

What “certain situations “ are you imagining?

Just reading through this. I’ll stand corrected if I am confusing a phosphate remover with the PQ60. But there is some discussion on pq60 in this thread. I am open to suggestion on phosphate issue if it’s insanely high. I realize the advice usually is don’t worry about it.

The thinking and experience has evolved. That thread is 17 years old.

You are confusing the PQ60 and phosphate remover. You read the line incorrectly.

Ignore phosphates. Focus on maintaining slam and scrub everything!

Did you remove the drain covers and scrub them and the drain after covers removed? Turn pump off when you do it.
Did you check the foam in the weir doors?

Yes. Took a dumbbell down and got the drain covers. I may do again.

Admittedly I am unsure how to gauge the foam. It did not have any particles on the exterior of the foam etc.

I will 2x check that today. I don’t recall seeing anything crazy. Took me a while to figure out how to detach them and place back.

I can't tell from pic. Any lights?
One main light - cleaned out already ; two weeks back - contained rusty powder and black chips.

Three small accent lights - operating under theory they lack a niche.

And a bubbler / light on that tanning ledge in bottom right corner.

Any idea the make/model of the lights?

Maybe post some good pictures of them and we may be able to figure them out.

I will, certainly
Believe they’re Hayward ColorLogics. But will get pics up later today. The bubbler is a different brand.
