New to pools; Water milky white, cloudy; with Iron

I don't think it would damage anything, but might make cleaning interesting for you if you get bugs and other normal debris caught in the poly. But I suppose that can happen anyway right? Might be worth a try.
@JessBlount617 @Texas Splash I'll try that! Worse comes to worse I will still purchase the bucket later tonight!

Yeah you'll just catch a lot of funk in the bucket - but it won't hurt anything.

I wasn't prepared for your pool return to be under your decking... we're going to have to switch gears. Can you get your hands on a sump pump? Drop that in the pool, and cycle the return of the pump through the poly bucket.

Funny enough that hole there used to be where the skimmer was. So I can def run the return hose through there, no problem! Would I still need the sump pump?

Probably not! If you can run the return hose through that hole, you should be able to rock a bucket from there! And with the decking you won't need your ladder to support the bucket! Win Win!
Perfect. I've been trying to find screw in lids but can't find any. I will probably have to bungee the lid closed for good measure. I'll keep you updated when I go to purchase one! Would you be able to send me a link on how to attach the hose to the bucket?

One more thing! I did replace the cartridge with the polyfil just now. Seems to be working without hassle. Once I get the bucket and polyfil should I put the cartridge back in? Or should I just do a double poly filter from the housing to the bucket back out to the pool? Would that have an effect on the dead algae returning to the pool?

Thanks for all your help guys! I really appreciate it 😊

I'd recommend ratchet strapping your bucket closed - if you have too much pressure built - the lid will burst. You offset that by drilling more holes in the lid. The lid could warp - so keep that in mind.

You can't overdo the filtering - thats one perk! You can keep the poly in the skimmer, or go back to cartridge - whatever is doing the most good.

got it!

Regarding filtering, I placed the cartridge back in. It was not filtering correctly and the pool turned greener than earlier this morning 🤦🏽. I'll get the other method going as soon as possible and keep you guys posted.

Wait, what?? How did the cartridge get us moving backward? Oy... o_O
I think it was too much pressure so very little was coming out of the jet. I went from 5psi to 10psi afrer the change 😢. Also, most of the poly wasn't wet so I was able to save a big bag. I'm sure it would probably work better with the bucket method.

Edit: it didn't return to what it was yesterday, that's for sure 😂 huge difference before and after (attached).

Yep, keep on SLAM while filtering the iron. Reminder - the bucket is only catching iron deposits, not messing with chemical balance. So SLAM + Bucket will be just fine!

Everything looks good! That bucket have plenty of poly in it? Should feel “full” not “firm” if that makes sense 🙌🏼

Get yo’ SLAM on!

Awesome!! Yep! I made sure it was full as in it would pop out of the bucket before sealing but not too firm. I'll keep you guys posted.

How does it look this morning @GtrMan128
Hey gm! It's still green. I let it run for 8 hrs but I'll be in the city until 6pm today so I'll check again when I return. I swept the pool from dead algae and added 10oz of chlorine! Hopefully I see a big change this evening.

@JessBlount617 @Texas Splash

Good evening guys! Here is the update. I would have to wait till tomorrow for a "for sure" but I feel like a bit of progress has been made. Attached is it so far (photos never do it justice when it's progressive lol). I could see the bottom and I feel like the color is changing little by little. I get a lot of sun in the backyard so that's always a variable when it comes to judging the color. But I feel there's a change 😊. I'll keep you posted!

Also, should I change the poly fil? Or would it be too soon. There is some stain on it as you can see in the photo.

I do see a subtle change. :good: I though you could rinse out the poly, but I'll let Jess confirm what is best,
Sounds good! If I can keep it two more days I would be happy about that 😂. Once the lid is removed it has to be replaced as it's a locking lid in which the rim needs to be peeled off (sort of like the old milk jugs that had the tab). If need be I'd definitely change it tomorrow morning!
