When my pool was built they installed an Ichlor 30, which for my pool is on the small size. The cell was thankfully large enough to keep up with my 20,000 gallon pool.
At the end of last year the cell seemed to go out so I ordered an intellichlor IC60 and by ordering online and installing myself I saved a ton of money (hopefully). This year I had a hard time keeping the chlorine at the ideal level and finally noticed that the flow sensor was red explaining why the FC level wasn't where I thought it should be. When I installed the new cell I kept the same pump speed and just expected no problems. I think I've increased my speed 3-400 rpms and I noticed the red light on again yesterday.
Do the intellichlor systems require a higher flow rate vs Ichlor? Do I possible have a bad flow sensor? Whenever I noticed the red light I can increase the speed on my pump manually and the light will immediately turn green.

Do the intellichlor systems require a higher flow rate vs Ichlor?
R,

Not really.. I suspect a dirty filter.. When was the last time you cleaned it?

The real question is... Do I have a flow issue? What does the water going back to the pool feel like at an eyeball.. Is it weak or strong?

Is your pool green or cloudy?

Thanks,

Jim R.

I haven't cleaned it this season but it was clean at the start. Theoretically shouldn't need to clean it but once a year given the size. The filter in the past was smaller and never had that problem with the ichlor 30.

The flow at the eyes seems like normal. Pool is perfectly clear.

Even though I didn't agree with your assessment I went ahead and cleaned the filter (not 100% but enough to get most of the junk out) That seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks. I've learned years ago that when I'm on this forum or one of my other interest's forum, I try to follow the advice of the experts even when I might not agree.

R,

You are there and I am not, so I can only take a stab at the most obvious answer... Sometimes I get lucky...

My pull it out of my rear guess is that dirty filters account for 80% of poor flow issues..

The next question is how long will the 'fix' last.. If the problem comes back quickly, then you need to be thinking algae, even if the water is clear, and you can't see it yet. Algae can quickly clog a filter, long before the pool turns green.

Thanks for the feedback..
