Official 2024 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

I am waiting for my grill to die and then I'll be switching
We literally gave 2 grills away after using our griddle just once. That being said we cooked most things in cast iron skillets on the grill anyway.
Can’t tell you how much we love ours. Found it new in the box on marketplace for $120 a few years back. We went with the blackstone 36 in (4 burner)

I was gifted a ninja woodfire grill.
I love it for smaller batch cooking and esp pizza !
This is a scratch dough we tried. First dance with homemade dough. Pretty much the only way we eat pizza now. Although the size of the dough balls has been altered to fit the ninja better (since this first go)

We’ve gotten tired of paying $200+ at a nice restaurant, so we decided to stay home for our anniversary. I reverse seared some prime filets to medium rare+ and made up a horseradish sauce. Sides of fondant potatoes and grilled corn. If you’ve never tried fondant potatoes before, I highly recommend them. Easy to make and absolutely decadent!

Total bill was around $50, including a wonderful Pinot Noir.

I can’t believe I just found this thread !

Food is kinda my thang haha.
That looks amazing . Have you heard of St. Elmo’s steak house ? It’s in Indy.
they sell bottled sauces at our grocery’s here. The cocktail and horseradish sauces are to die for good (if you like spicy) the cocktail sauce at the restaurant is like blow the top of your head off spicy. The bottle is a bit milder but still very spicy

I didn't want another large cooking piece of equipment on my patio. I already have a pellet smoker and gas grill. So I bought a griddle insert for my gas grill. It works great.

Yep, I’ve dined there. We also have some phenomenal steakhouses here in the DFW area, but they are SO expensive. I’ve gotten to where I can cook a steak that’s on par with what they charge $75 for. Prime filets are just under $40/lb at a nearby butcher, so that’s 2 8oz steaks - perfect for us. Sides and beverages are where the savings really show up. And we’ve also gotten to where we make our own sauces - they’re very easy and then you avoid the additives and chemicals, as well as control things like salt content. Same with rubs. Adds a little fun, too!

Would you mind linking the recipe you follow? (Not sure of the rules here, if that’s allowed etc)
Here’s one. It’s roughly the same thing we use, except that we use avocado oil instead of vegetable oil when browning the potatoes. There’s also a version that substitutes something like 6 sticks of melted butter instead of the chicken stock. Talk about decadent!

Cooked a pork butt and some chicken thighs for a 4th celebration. Got busy with guests and didn’t get pictures of the pork butt, but here are the last few chicken thighs coming off the Kamado. We shredded all of the meat and served pulled pork and pulled chicken sliders, along with a spicy cole slaw and an outstanding guacamole that my wife made.

Only way to go. I recently learned beef in the grocery stores are from over 20 different countries! Even if labeled usda (because they are processed here they can label it that way- nice loophole)

The stuff they have to “wash” it in to kill pathogens, because it’s not hung to age/kill pathogens scares the stuff out of me . I’m in a rural area my butcher is 2 miles away and the beef comes from a farm 1.5 miles away (his family farm) it’s a tad pricier but so worth it

We love cooking at home. Certainly cheaper and 99%of the time tastier, as you say not to mention chemicals etc .

I’ve been coined “the paper plate chef” by family 🤣 no dishwasher here, so you better believe we are eating on something I don’t have to wash

Does anyone have experience with a Smokefire ex6 pellet smoker/grill?

A client gave me one a few months ago (gently used). I Only have 2 cooks on it. The glow plug went out on the third try.
Should I give this thing a go or just pass it on to someone else ?

I tried one of those years ago (from Lowe’s) I was pretty unsuccessful with it 🤣. Glad it’s treating you well

It wasn't a cheap one. It was from Steelmade. It is made from 3/16" steel which is the same thickness as a Blackstone. I have to season it just like a Blackstone. I can just set it down on the grill grates instead of removing them like the Weber insert.
