From northern Minnesota .. I need advice please! I have a 27’ round above ground pool (17,000 gallons) and the liner has come away from the pool on almost 1/4 of the pool. The pool was here when I moved in 17 yrs ago. Same liner . I’m going to try the hot water thing but don’t really have much faith that it’s going to stretch that much. The last year I did open it , it was peeling back slightly in a couple small areas and I just used some thick tape that works under water and it held for the summer. But now, the liner is waaay down. I really don’t think that I can replace the liner myself as it sounds like a huge job. Really don’t want to spend $6000 or more for a new pool. Any suggestions ? Btw, I live waay up in northern Minnesota and we do not have a pool place around here or anyone who does such.
On a side note.. I didn’t open the pool last year because it ended up being the incubator of many many many tadpoles that must have just continued to reproduce all summer! 😞 Also I had purchased a new cover the fall of 2022 which didn’t even last the winter ( I’ll talk more about that later - do NOT buy that brand .. it’s HORRIBLE!). You would touch the cover that spring and it would rip. They sent me a new one ( I wanted a refund but they didn’t want to do that!) and so what I did last fall after relocating all of the frogs was put the new cover over the old . So… needless to say .. the new one ripped too, just not as bad. I removed the new cover this spring and was left with a ton of debris on the top of the old ripped cover. Tried our best to get it off without letting all of that into the pool but that didn’t happen . If you pulled on it , it ripped. So on top of my liner issue , the water is also very green . It’s so sad looking . It is like pea soup 😞 but I’ll deal with the issue after I figure out if there is a salvageable way to continue to use my current liner.

I’m sorry, but that liner is toast. You’ve been there 17 years so it is at least that old, and likely it’s older. It’s time to replace it.

The only last thing you can try it to lower the water level and buy a heat gun to heat up the vinyl and then stretch it up and over the j-channel.

My has liner has been popping off in a few areas the last 3 years after I remove the winter cover. And this is how I found is the easiest way to get it back on.
The hot water trick did not work for me.

Good luck.

*obvious caution of using electric devices around the pool applies. (y)

A hair dryer might be enough warmth to do a large area with less risk of melting the liner. (But still gets hot close so still some risk) You may want to try that first.
