Pool flow alarm... not pool alarm for kids

I ran into a problem a couple of days back with my pool equipment. The pressure side of the pump to the filter developed a leak and drained out enough water so the skimmer ran dry and the pump started to squeal bad enough that a neighbour came over to see what all the commotion was. I am away for the summer and would like to know if there is anything that will monitor via wifi the flow or lack of flow if a pipe breaks. I was also thinking of pointing a camera at the equipment but that is a passive solution where I need to look at the video. Does anyone have any ideas for absentee owners?

Use a flow switch, like used in a heater ( Heater Flow Switch - Further Reading ) , to trigger a IOT ( Internet of Things) device that will send an email or txt when the flow switch opens.

All the piece parts are generally available. It just takes a bit of integration.

Do you have an alarm system in your house? You can tie the flow switch into the alarm system to send an alert to wherever.

If you don’t have the capability to do the integration talk to a company in your area who does home automation.

Great idea
Question... Would you put the flow switch before the pump, after the pump or both?

I plan to tie this all into the house security at some point along with installing a wifi electrical breaker so I can shut down at least the pump if not the entire system remotely.

Thanks
