Easy touch remote turning spa and blower on but not pump

Hi all, first off, I'm still not great with all this stuff so please bear with me.

Previously I was able to simply turn on the spa and blower buttons on my Easy Touch remote. The spa button turns the actuators and the blowers blow, ok good. Now I know that the pump needs to go on to make sure the heater works but previously I never had to manually do anything else other than those 2 buttons on the remote. Now, the pump doesnt turn on that way and I'm not sure what I need to change to fix that. The only thing that changed which most likely impacted this is that I had my pump calibrated for the winter months.

Does this make sense to anyone? Is this something you can walk me through figuring out? Thank you in advance

I had my pump calibrated for the winter months.
T,

What does that even mean?? I have never heard of that before.. Who said it had to be done, and what did they actually do?

What happens when you use the main panel to do the same thing?? Put the system into the Spa mode and turn the blower on??

What does the little display on your EasyTouch show, before you use the remote to turn on the spa, and what does it show after you use the remote to turn on the spa..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hey Jim, so that is what our electric company suggests we do. Here is the snippet from their website below. Let me go verify your other questions and Ill post an update when I have that information.

FREE Pool Pump Winterization Calibration

Offer is eligible from October 1–December 16, 2024. (subject to change)
  • The purpose of the Winterization offer is to verify your pool pump is operating optimally over the winter months to conserve energy while still maintaining the pool.
  • We will calibrate your qualified pool pump to circulate water at an appropriate speed based on the specific size of your pool.
  • The proper calibration of the high- and low-speed settings will save you a significant amount of energy and money.
  • When the calibration is complete, the pump will help keep your pool cleaner and provide the best water quality.
  • Pool pump is eligible for one Winterization Calibration per year and must be installed for a minimum of 12 months prior

Ok so I went out to take another look, if i use the panel and put it into spa mode with the blower on. Everything "appears" to work correctly, the valves move properly, heater gets power. Panel shows the heater light on, the filter/pump light on and the blower light however the filter/pump does not turn on. My easy touch remote shows what I would expect in both scenarios, it registers that the spa/blower/heater are on.

Now when the pool guy was here looking at it. Both times it worked for him (i was not home unfortunately) but I have pictures where it looks like it's working for him. But both times he was here when the pump was on via a schedule. Is it possible that me trying to turn this stuff on "off schedule" that there is some hiccup causing the pump to not turn on?

T,

Basically, there should not be any difference in your winter operation and your summer operation.. You should be shooting for low electrical use all year round..

I run 24/7, mostly at 1200 RPM, for less than $20 bucks a month... This allows me to make a little chlorine all the time and skim all the time. Plus, I like the look of my pool when there is a little motion to the water.

Anyway... Your pump is not going to run unless it gets a command from your EasyTouch over the RS-485 cable.. (Is the cable connected??) Several things have to happen for the pump to run..

You must be in AUTO.. (Not the Service mode)
A Circuit must be on.. (Usually the Pool or Spa Circuit, but it can be any Circuit..)
The Circuit that is on must have a speed assigned to it.. (As in Pool Circuit = 1500 RPM)
The correct pump type must be selected on the speed set up page. (As in VS VSF, etc..) I don't 'think' there is a VST so you would use VS) NOTE: If the pump type is changed, it will erase all of the existing speeds..)

I suspect that your "calibration" guy, did something to the speed set up page. Either changed the pump type or deleted the spa speed..

1. I just want to confirm that the little LCD on the main panel shows AUTO and Spa, when you use your remote to turn on the spa..

2. I need you to check out the pump speed set up page.. Menu, Settings, IntelliFlo, Pump #1, What is the pump type?? Then select Speeds.. You can then use the up/dn arrow keys to scroll through each Circuit and see what speed is assigned. What is the Spa speed??

3. For any of this to work, the pump must be under the control of the EasyTouch.. On an IntelliFlo pump the display will show "Display not active".. I am not sure what you will see on your WhisperFlo VST?? Let me see if I can find out.

Thanks,

Jim R.

T,

I looked at the manual and for the pump to run at all, the Start/Stop light must be Green.. not off..

It will not run if the Ext Control light is on.. (External control is different than RS-485 control)

Look at the pump's small display and tell me if you see anything that indicates the EasyTouch is talking with the pump..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok I think we are getting there. The easy touch remote does have access to the pump. Remote and pump both show auto. Now when I look at pump 1 and speeds there are only 2 set out of 8.

Pump 1 - 1/8
3300
Circuit pool

Pump 1 - 2/8
3450
Circuit pool high

Nothing for spa. So I think you nailed it that he removed the spa portion. Do I simple add that in here at 3/8 and set to spa circuit? Or blower?

NV Energy will love you with those pump speeds.

I would set the Pool Circuit to 1500 rpm.

T,

If you have no heater, you can run at 1200.. With a heater, 1500 or so.. Just make sure it is fastest enough to turn on your SWCG.

There is just almost never a reason to run at 3450.

Add a speed for the Spa Circuit.. Set it at 2500 to start, and if that is not fast enough, then step it up to where you like it. I would not go above 3000 or maybe 3200. No need to assign a speed to your Blower circuit..

I suspect that your Circuit Pool High is a problem, because if run alone, it will not power your salt cell..

Show me your schedules...

Do you have any water features?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok I set the spa to turn on the pump at 2500 RPM. No water features.

Schedules are 7-9am every day Pool High then 9-6pm Pool. I switched the pool from 3300 to 2000 based on what you guys were saying. Wondering if I should be getting rid of the pool high now

T,

Your salt cell will only run when you are in the Pool mode.. So between 7 am and 9 am, when the Pool High Circuit is on, the cell will be off.. (Just because it has pool in the name, does not make it the Pool circuit.

In my mind, if the pump is running, you should be making chlorine, I suggest the you schedule your Pool Circuit for the total time you are running the pump each day..

You can still run the Pool High Circuit, if you want, but just run it in addition to the Pool Circuit. When the pump sees two or more speeds, it will always run the faster one.

I think that 2000 RPM is still too fast.. I'd try 1500 and see what happens.. But, that is up to you.

Thanks,

Jim R.
