New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

A question to those of you who have the fine filter, or have tried both … is there a reason to not get just the fine filter?
Will it have issues with large debris ? I tend to hard a decent about of leaves but also some sediment. Just curious why the regular filter would be needed at all if the fine would handle everything

Great review! I just ordered a 614q today! This will be my first robotic pool cleaner, I’m on my third multi-rebuilt Hayward pool vac in the 15 years of pool ownership, I’ll add ownership reviews as soon as possible..

When I ordered from Marina Pools, Margaret discussed this exact point. She recommended the regular filter if you primarily have large debris and leaves. She stated that it’s possible when filling up the basket with leaves, there could be a reduction in suction or vacuuming efficiency with the fine filter compared against the standard filter. If you mainly have finer debris, she recommended the fine filter.
 
I am going back and forth about purchasing the EVO 614iq. When I first started my search, I was going to purchase the Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus, but the reviews are all over the place. I don't know why there aren't many reviews about the EVO 614iq online. I have read through the reviews here, and I believe most are positive. I know once I purchase it, I really can't return it (since I am in Georgia) and that makes me nervous. Any advice? I also don't know which filter to get. It's such a big expense for us and I need a little convincing!
 
Just purchased the 614iq and I'm not happy with the dirt pickup on it. It's leaving dirt in the corners of the pool. Anyone else have this issue? Did getting the fine filter fix it? Below are pictures of the pool immediately following a cleaning.

I have the regular filter. However, I don't see how that would be the issue. Even without the regular size filter, it seems to me the robot should at least suck up these large piles of dirt and spit them elsewhere on the pool floor.

I purchased the 614iq and fine filter yesterday from Marina. Great experience working with Margaret! This is to replace my troublesome and aged Kreepy Krauly Legend vacuum which I'll still keep around as backup.

Something is not right... :scratch:

I have been using robots for over 10 years and none of them left piles of dirt like that.

Do you see it drive over the dirt, and the dirt just stays there, or is it just there when the robot is done?

Not sure what it could be... I'd call the seller and report the problem.

I agree on the filter type...

We have small seed-like debris this time of year and on the maiden voyage of my new 614iQ I noticed debris coming out of the impeller. Plenty stayed in the basket of course but there was enough to notice. Perhaps my unit is not getting a good enough seal around the rubber gasket on top of the basket? Here's a photo of the basket with debris. As you can see, there is a little debris up in the lid and outside the sealed basket area (when lid is closed) as well as buildup around the rear of the basket upper seal.

And totally unrelated, I'm happy to report a successful repurposing of my Dolphin S300i caddy to accomodate the 614iQ robot and power supply! I removed the old Dolphin power supply from the caddy and the new 614iQ power supply simply dropped over the upper mounting bar and was supported by the lower lip. Though not an exact fit, it only had a little wobble. One large zip tie later and it works great!

Well, two cycles of Wally with the new 'fine' filter, pool is cyrstal clear. Lifted Wally out of the water and normally it drains in a second or two. Couldn't figure out why it was trickling water out for 30 seconds before I just set it down and opened the top. Filter had a solid 3 inches of fine dust in it :) Finer filter is a must have in the southwest.

I just received my eco 614 today and tested it out on my dirty pool. I decided that I need a caddy. I have space on my patio to set it but I simply now want it off the ground. I found and ordered a “Polaris caddy cart for robotics “ is their generic caddy that works for all their machines..
 
I just called Marina and ordered the EVO 640iQ and fine filter. I kept the standard filter for all the live oak leaves after our wind storms, but I also ordered the fine filter because we have flagstone that is disintegrating and so we get a lot of sand and fine debris too. This way I can change out the filter depending on what I need.

Question for you all….We currently have a suction side cleaner (Hayward Aquanaut) that has a little spring door in the wall when not in use. I know to close that off and open the floor drains fully at the equipment pad. I don’t want that section of plumbing to get all nasty. Is there anything I need to do to close down that section of plumbing? I don’t necessarily want to make it permanently unavailable, but I also don’t want algae to brew there because the water will be stagnant. Hopefully that makes sense.

I have always used the fine filter on my robot for everything. If I am cleaning, it might as well be picking up everything.

you thinking it might be a waste to have 2 types of filter? it's $50 not cheap, I could still cancel the regular filter...not sure how much better for leaves (and drag/longevity) vs. using the fine filter. If anyone has tested or compared them in action please let us know.

Correct. I never use the coarse filter for my robot. Not sure why you would choose the coarse over the fine. Now I do not own an EVO, but my Dolphin never misses a leaf or dirt when I use the fine.

I have had my EVO about 8 months now and still pretty happy with it. I am noticing one issue - wondering if anyone else has seen this. I do keep mine in the water most of the time as I run it daily with the scheduler and my swivel cable seemingly no longer swivels. My cable is getting pretty tangled - on par with my old Dolphin that had no swivel. I have tried laying it out on the deck which really is not working that great if any. Manually turning the swivel "seems" it is OK but apparently it is not. Frustrating.
