Screenlogic2 protocol adapter

Hi,

I purchased the screenlogic2 protocol adapter without the wireless kit since I wired my PoE cameras by myself and I didn't feel like spending another 3 to 400 dollars. I have a network switch in my attic for the cameras. I'm considering a few different options but I'm not sure what's actually feasible.

Options:
1. Stuff the protocol adapter in the easy touch control box seen below (will it fit?) and run an outdoor Cat 6 from the network switch into the control box and network protocol through the soffit or a conduit from the attic maybe 10-15 feet away.



2. Put the protocol switch in the attic next to the network switch and run a 4 conductor 22 AWG outdoor cable from the attic to the control box with the above methods
3. The indoor easy touch is near my TV with an ethernet wall outlet and network switch so I can maybe just put it behind the TV and connect it to the back of that but I'd rather not have another wire in my living room to deal with.

I feel like the easiest thing for me would be to just run the ethernet from the network switch in the attic to the control box but I don't know if the adapter can fit nor if it's okay to put there since they explicitly state in the manual that it should be in an indoor evniornment.

Hardwiring ScreenLogic works right up to the point that lightning takes it out and everything that it is connected to it... Ask me how I know..

Does not matter how you do it, but you really need a wireless link of some type..

I now use the ones that came with my Protocol adapter, it would have been a lot cheaper had I initially done that...

Follow another post of mine and you'll hear about me frying my Pentair ScreenLogic Wireless interface. After pricing a new one at $150-$200 I decided to come up with a cheaper solution. I moved the protocol adapter inside the easytouch panel and bought a wireless bridge for under $20. Everything...

I used the method described in the thread linked.
In summary, you need a Wireless Access Point. I have a TPlink RE220. You place the Protocol Adapter in the ET box. Use power in the ET box to power the Access Point. I hung it out the bottom of the box. I have very minimal rain so protecting it was not a concern. Might be different for you. Then I access the system straight through my Wifi.

Hah well that’s a good thought. What about my cameras!?! The switch is “industrial grade” and supposedly includes some kind of protection from lighting strikes.

My other solution was similar to the one listed below by Marty but I didn’t think about powering it from the easy bought a WiFi access point for cheap, was gonna plug it into an outdoor outlet and run an Ethernet cable 20 ft to the box.

Hah that’s funny, that’s pretty much the same model bridge thing I already bought and was gonna wire as noted in my most recent post.

How do you power it in the ET box? It’s been a minute since I opened it. Does it have an outlet?

I wired mine from the convenience outlet. Or you can piggy back off any 110V breaker.
I just wired in a female plug.

So, here where I'm at. I have wifi ethernet bridge, now I need to decide between the few options.

Option one:
The indoor easy touch:

Looks like they wired it using an RJ45 cable which is news to me but I'm learning a whole lot. I bought 22/4 cable for the adapter, can I just jam it in where the wires are already entering? Can you mix an RJ45 and 22/4 cable? Can i wire the adapter with an RJ45 cable like so or no? Do i not know what I'm doing? (yes)

Unfortunately, there's no convenience outlet. There's one down 20 ft away would I could use and I bought outdoor ethernet I can run to/from the ethernet/wifi bridge. How do you power a device via usb from piggy backing off a breaker? and when you say you wired in a female plug, what exactly do you mean. You just have a recepticle floating in the box? Mine is attached to the side with a small hole, the cat5 goes to one of my mesh routers. Works fine.

How do you power a device via usb from piggy backing off a breaker? and when you say you wired in a female plug, what exactly do you mean. You just have a recepticle floating in the box?

I took wire and used a female two prong plug (from Home Depot) and used that from my convenience outlet wire block (or you could go to a 110V breaker). My plug hangs out the bottom of the ET box with my wireless access point plugged in. Again, I have little rain, and the area the ET box is in is pretty protected. If you wish to wire with USB, you would need to wire in a USB female adapter.
